La lingua sia musicale sia letteraria usate sono
Direi comprensive di quasi tutto il Mediterraneo
Ci sono strumenti che partono dal Bosforo
E arrivano fino allo Stretto di Gibilterra
Cominciando dallo shanai turco, dal bouzouki greco
Attraversando l'Africa del Nord con l'ūd, cioè con
Il liuto arabo, il nonno della nostra chitarra
Per arrivare fino alla chitarra andalusa
Non dimenticando qualche mandolino napoletano

A proposito del mandolino, si potrebbero aprire dei discorsi
Perché pare che uno studioso olandese abbia scoperto
Che il primo mandolino europeo sia stato costruito a Genova
E aveva sei corde doppie
Era accordato per quarte invece che per quinte

I napoletani, vent'anni dopo
Gliene hanno rancate quattro ed è rimasto un mandolino
A quattro corde, accordato per... accordato per quinte
Ma questo non lo dico certo a detrimento dei napoletani

I dialetti malgrado l'ostracismo della televisione

Il CD si chiama "Anime salve"

Ha come tema fondamentale quello della solitudine
Solitudine dovuta ad emarginazione
Emarginazione a sua volta dovuta a comportamenti
Da parte di singole persone, di gruppi di persone
Difformi dai comportamenti della maggioranza

O per singoli casi del destino, per scherzi della natura
Come quello che fa nascere un essere umano maschio
Eh, ma gli da uno spirito, un animo assolutamente femminili
Questo essere umano viene iscritto all'anagrafe
Come maschio e di lì comincia una slavina di tormenti
Di difficoltà di vivere
Di incomprensioni, di sensi di colpa
Una slavina di dolori

È il caso della... di Prinçesa
Di tutte le prinçese con cui conviviamo
O emarginazioni dovute anche ad eredità culturali molto antiche
Come quella del popolo rom
Che, a stare a sentire Erodoto
Circola per il mondo, per la terra, dal 300 a.C.
Quindi da più di duemila anni
E circolano senza armi

Quindi se si dovesse dare un giorno un premio
Per la pace ad un popolo, si dovrebbe darlo ai rom

Non fanno altro che difendere la loro libertà
Quindi è anche un discorso sulla libertà
Una libertà conquistata attraverso il disagio della solitudine

E sulla solitudine si può aprire un altro capitolo
Io non credo che la solitudine consista nell'essere fisicamente soli
A parte il caso di bambini piccoli oppure di malati
Io credo che la solitudine consista
Nell'essere soli ma nel non riuscire a tenersi compagnia
E chi non riesce a tenere compagnia agli altri, difficilm- a se stesso
Difficilmente la riesce a tenere poi anche agli altri

Queste persone sono preoccupate anche dal
Silenzio, ne so qualcosa io perché un po'
Un po' solitario sono sempre stato e mi sono sempre sentito
E il silenzio viene paragonato ad un parente stretto della solitudine

Ma basta abbandonarsi in una notte di stelle in campagna
E mettere orecchio agli infiniti suoni che ci arrivano dall'universo
Per renderci conto che il silenzio non esiste
E allora, se noi consideriamo la natura non
Fatta soltanto... non abitata soltanto da esseri umani
Dobbiamo concludere che non esiste neanche la solitudine

Those were three songs from "Crêuza de mä," which came out in '84.
An album I made because...

written with Ivano Fossati, a fellow citizen of ours,

The CD is called "Anime salve" (Saved Souls).

Its fundamental theme is that of solitude,
solitude due to marginalization,
marginalization in turn due to behaviors
on the part of individuals, of groups of people,
that differ from the behaviors of the majority.

Or due to individual twists of fate, to nature's jokes,
like the one that makes a male human being born,
eh, but gives him a spirit, an absolutely feminine soul.
This human being is registered at the registry office
as male, and from there begins an avalanche of torments,
of difficulties in living,
of misunderstandings, of guilt,
an avalanche of pain.

It's the case of... of Prinçesa,
of all the prinçese (princesses) with whom we live,
or marginalization also due to very ancient cultural legacies,
like that of the Roma people,
who, according to Herodotus,
have been circulating around the world, around the earth, since 300 BC.
So for more than two thousand years,
and they circulate without weapons.

So if one day a prize were to be given
for peace to a people, it should be given to the Roma,
because in fact these people...

And those who cannot keep company with themselves, difficul- with others,
they can hardly keep company with others either.

These people are also worried by
silence, I know something about it because a bit...

and silence is compared to a close relative of solitude.

But it is enough to abandon oneself on a starry night in the countryside
and listen to the infinite sounds that reach us from the universe
