Ci sarà forse ancora, appesa in qualche angolo
O a macchiare di ricordi un muro dell'Associazione Bocciofila Modenese
Fra mucchi di coppe e trofei vinti in tornei ogni volta "del secolo"
Glorie oscure di eroi dell'a punto, del volo, delle bocciate secche e tese
Quella foto sul pallaio, presa una sera di quasi estate
Con me e Cencio vicini, fintamente assorti a guardare il punto
Perché l'umorismo popolare volle immortalare assieme me, il Gigante
E Cencio il Nano, viso già d'uomo serio, compreso, quasi compunto

Non so come sia capitato in mezzo a noi
Confuso branco adolescente di un periodo oscuro
Di amori e di domande che gonfiavano
La testa e i fianchi a ondate sofferte, ma cercate
E poi quei raspare fra sottovesti in nailon
Rubando al buio quel po' di rubabile
Scoprire e esser scoperti, coraggiosi ed incerti e dopo
In branco, raccontarsi e tutti a turno ad ascoltarsi, ma lui

Eh, lui non aveva un amore da dire, no, lui non aveva una storia
Solo crearsi avventure di cosce e di seni che poi ci sparava a brutto muso
E noi lì ad ascoltarlo sorridendo, senza razzismo né boria
Ma senza capire ciò che voleva essere anche lui, solo un normale adolescente ottuso
Eppure usava lo stesso barbaro gergo e gli stessi jeans consumati
E amava gli stessi film di bossoli e marines lungo i mari giapponesi
Parlava di rock e fumetti, e non perdeva i cartoni animati
Come noi guardava esplodere il mondo con gli stessi occhi attenti, spauriti, sorpresi

Ma cosa pensava lontano da noi, cosa sognava quand'era da solo?
Con le stesse voglie e con gli stessi eroi, ma ali più piccole per lo stesso volo
Forse sognava anche troppo e davvero, certo in quel branco si sentiva perso
Dove scappare per sentirsi vero, dove fuggire per non esser diverso?
E sognò il circo, realtà capovolta, mondo di uguali perché tutti strani
La nostra solita realtà stravolta, quello Eden senza giganti o nani
"Cencio è scappato via, ma l'han già beccato!" Dopo due giorni era già ritornato

Ma il tempo più ottuso di noi incalza per tutti, sia per i giganti che i nani
Chi immaginava allora che ognuno sarebbe finito in un proprio circo personale?
Vincenti o perdenti non importa, ma quasi mai secondo i propri piani
Con la faccia tinta, sul trapezio, fra i leoni, solo attenti a non farsi troppo male
Qualcuno m'ha detto che vivi in provincia, con una ballerina bulgara o rumena
Chissà se hai poi trovato di dentro la tua vera altezza?
Addio amico venuto dal passato per un momento appena
Addio giorni andati in un soffio, amici mai più incontrati, s'ciao, giovinezza

Cencio

Perhaps it still hangs, tucked away in some corner,
Or staining a wall of the Modena Bocce Association with memories,
Among piles of cups and trophies won in tournaments, each one "of the century,"
Obscure glories of heroes of the point, the flight, the dry and taut shots.
That photo on the bowling green, taken one almost summer evening,
With me and Cencio side by side, feigning absorption in watching the point,
Because popular humor wanted to immortalize me, the Giant,
And Cencio the Dwarf, with his already serious, understanding, almost contrite face.

A confused adolescent pack in a dark period,

Only creating adventures of thighs and breasts that he then spouted out with a gruff face,
And we there listening to him, smiling, without racism or arrogance,
But without understanding that he, too, just wanted to be a normal, obtuse adolescent.
And yet he used the same barbaric jargon and the same worn-out jeans,
And loved the same movies of bullets and marines along the Japanese seas,
He talked about rock and comics, and didn't miss the cartoons,
Like us, he watched the world explode with the same attentive, frightened, surprised eyes.

But what did he think when he was away from us, what did he dream when he was alone?
With the same desires and the same heroes, but smaller wings for the same flight.
Perhaps he dreamed too much and truly, certainly in that pack he felt lost,
Where to escape to feel real, where to flee to not be different?
And he dreamed of the circus, a reality turned upside down, a world of equals because everyone was strange,
Our usual reality distorted, that Eden without giants or dwarfs.
"Cencio ran away, but they've already caught him!" After two days he was back.

But the time, more obtuse than us, presses on for everyone, for both giants and dwarfs,
Who would have imagined then that each of us would end up in our own personal circus?
Winners or losers, it doesn't matter, but almost never according to our own plans,
With painted faces, on the trapeze, among the lions, just careful not to hurt ourselves too much.
