A família do Rorbeto
Morava bem escondida
Num lugar quase deserto
Com chão de terra batida

Lá não tinha nem um carro
Muito menos avião
E todos os moradores
Se tratavam como irmãos

A vila era bem pequena
Na beira de um velho rio
Os homens pescavam nele
O pai de Rorbeto, e os tios

Viviam todos como se fossem
Irmãos dos pais de Rorbeto
Pra todos, ele era um novo sobrinho
Pra alguns, um neto

Não tinha nem luz, nem gás
Nas casas do povoado
O banho era de água fria
E ninguém ficava esquentado

De dia, se abria a janela
Pra acender a luz do Sol
De noite, acendiam-se às velas
E acabava o futebol

Às vezes além das velas
Também se acendiam fogueiras
Não dava pra jogar bola
Mas tinha mil brincadeiras

No céu, tinha um monte de estrelas
Formando estranhas figuras
Nas árvores, jabuticabas
Brilhando de tão maduras

Na casa do bebê Rorbeto
Morava um cão vira lata
Que parecia até gente
Criança de quatro patas

Filé era inteligente
Sabia andar sem coleira
Pescava sozinho no rio
Subia em Jabuticabeira

Os homens e as mulheres
Os jovens e os velhos da vila
Viviam com os bichos e plantas
Uma vida simples, tranquila

E principalmente as crianças
Dormiam em paz e felizes
Amavam e cuidavam da terra
Como se tivessem raízes

Sempre acordavam cantando
Ouvindo o canto do galo
E já levantavam dançando
Curtindo o maior embalo

Pediam um leite pra vaca
Comiam um bolo macio
Depois escovavam os dentes
Na água corrente do rio

Concluding Part 2 - A Boy Called Rorbeto

Rorbeto's family
Was hiding in a safe place
In a deserted kind of place
With beaten earth ground

There were no cars
And no planes
And all the locals
Treated each other as siblings

The village was very small
On the banks of an old river
The men would fish there
Rorbeto's father and his uncles

They lived as if they were
Siblings to Rorbeto's parents
To all, he was a new nephew
To some, a grandson

There was neither electricity nor gas
In the houses of the village
You had to take cold showers
And nobody got too hot

By day, you opened the window
To let the sunshine in
By night, candles were lit
And that was the end of soccer

Sometimes, apart from the candles
Fires would also be lit
It was impossible to play soccer
But there were a thousand other games

In the sky, there were lots of stars
Forming strange figures
In the trees, there were guavas,
Shining because they were so ripe

In the house of the baby, Rorbeto
There lived a stray dog
Who almost seemed human
A child with four paws

Filé was very intelligent
He knew how to get around without a leash
He could fish by himself in the river
He could climb guava trees

The men and women,
The young and old people of the village
Lived with the animals and plants,
Leading a simple, relaxed life

And especially the children
Who slept in peace and were happy
They loved and cared for the land
As if they had roots

They always woke up singing
On hearing the cock crow
And they got up dancing
Really enjoying themselves

They asked the cow for milk
They ate a soft cake
Then they brushed their teeth
In the river's flowing water
