Not the Viennese flirtation, certainly not the music
No, what I love most, I'll say it straight out

The knives

The shops are full of them
In every size
Made of stainless steel
And from the monarchy
For carving
For slitting
Everywhere you look, at every turn
For the poodle
For the strudel
And for the surgery

Everybody who loves Vienna, and most people do these days
Thinks of this possibility with so many knives

How beautiful Vienna would be without Viennese
As beautiful as a sleeping woman
The city park would certainly be much greener
And the Danube would finally be as blue
As beautiful Vienna would be without Viennese
A gain for foreign tourism

The cars would stand silent
The Ferris wheel would fall down
And the cozy alleys would be empty
Finally peace in Grinzing
And the Burgtheater closed
It would be lovely, how beautiful Vienna would be

No construction sites, no hurdy-gurdy
And no TV program
Only the little birds and the horses
And the dogs and the trees
And anyone who has to pass through this paradise
Will find later as a legacy
Instead of anti-semitism
Only an antiquarian bookshop

Neither illness nor recovery
Neither princes nor parliament
Would not this solution be for Vienna
