Veniva giù da corso Tricolore
E a casa già sognava di tornare

Tra gli autobus taxi motofurgoni
Non si vedeva più neanche il selciato
Pedone solo si sa non conta niente
Nessun lo fa passar né vuole farlo
Pianse gridò ma sempre inutilmente
Non uno che fermò per favorirlo
La notte giunse nera fredda e triste
Mise la giacca in terra per guanciale
Dormì e sognò che il traffico finisse
Ma l′alba lo trovò bloccato al sole
Pedone solo si sa non conta niente

Pianse gridò ma sempre inutilmente
Non uno che frenò per favorirlo
E tante notti e giorni dopo quello
Visse mangiando l'erba tra il selciato
Bevve la pioggia raccolta nel cappello
Era sconvolto sì e un po′ invecchiato
Morì così il tredici di agosto
Lasciò la moglie e i figli senza niente
Due giorni dopo veniva ferragosto
E il traffico svanì ma inutilmente

The Ballad of the Pedestrian

He walked down Corso Tricolore
And dreamt of returning home
He found himself in a roundabout
And tried to cross in the middle of the circle
The stripes on the ground gave him the right of way
But with that exasperating and frantic traffic
Amongst the buses, taxis, motorcycles and vans
He couldn't even see the pavement
A pedestrian alone, as we know, doesn't count
No one lets him pass or wants to
He cried and shouted, but in vain
Not one stopped to help him
Night came, dark, cold and sad
He put his jacket on the ground as a pillow
He slept and dreamt that the traffic would end
But dawn found him stranded in the sun

He lived, eating the grass between the pavement
He drank the rain collected in his hat
He was bewildered, yes, and a little aged
And so he died on the thirteenth of August

Two days later came the Ferragosto holiday
And the traffic disappeared, but in vain
