Ich bin nur ein Pilger, durchwandere die Nacht
Da kommt ein Dämon, hat mir Schmerzen gebracht
Er lässt mich erleiden was ihm auch einst widerfahren
Gibt erst seine Ruhe, wenn er alles hat getan
Ich wollte nicht leiden, wie′s er einst hat getan
Wollt nicht mit ihm geh'n, doch er kreuzte meine Bahn
Muss tun was er sagt, denn sein Wunsch ist mir Befehl
Was soll ich nur tun, er will haben meine Seel
Was hab ich nur getan?
Er reißt mir den Wams auf, zerschneidet meine Kehl
Mein Teil wird gekürzt, oh mir graut bei meiner Seel
Was habe ich getan, dass mir ein solches widerfährt?
Ich weiß nicht warum, was machte ich verkehrt?
Der heilige St. Peter kommt und hilft mir
Besiegt diesen Dämon, erlöst mich vom Tier
Nun darf ich wieder leben und dem Herrn preis ich Lob
Denn alles ist schöner als der eigene Tod
