Skrzydło świetliste bódł spoconym czołem

Błogosławieństwo na teraz i na potem
A kaftan jego cuchnął kozim tłuszczem
A szaty Pana mieniły się złotem
On sam zaś Pasterz lecz o rękach gładkich
W zapasach wołał: Łamiesz moje prawa
I żądasz jeszcze abym sam z nich zakpił
Ciebie co bluźnisz grozisz błogosławił! -

Jacob's Wrestling with the Angel

As Jacob wrestled with an angel
And he came to realize that he was wrestling with God
He butted his sweaty brow against a shining wing
And defiled the extraterrestrial body with road dust
And he cried, "Give me, O Lord, for I will not let you go
Bless me now and forevermore"
And his kaftan reeked of goat fat
And the Lord's garments shimmered with gold
He himself was a shepherd with smooth hands
And in wrestling, cried: "Thou breakest my laws
And thou still desireth that I myself mock them
Thou that blasphemest, threatenest to bless!" -

Jacob's kaftan reeked of goat fat
- "In the bondage of thy laws and in human bondage
I lived amongst animals, feeding an alien tribe
If thou standest in the way of freedom
I shall cast away the laws and change God!"
And in this encounter on a cattle road
God yielded and blessed Jacob
Having first taken the power from one of his legs
So that the free might be known by their limping
