Immer nach diesen erfolgreichen Vorstellungen, wenn dann langsam das Kreischen der Teenager verebbt und nur mehr diese bewusstlosen minderjährigen Mädchen vereinzelt im Saal herumliegen, immer dann kommen diese Sympathieträger in pastellfarbenen Sakkos und sogen zu mir: Du Josef, i derf doch du sogen i bin nämlich Einkaufsleiter bei IKEA. Du Sven, ahh Josef. Wie host du des gschofft dass du trotz dieser großen Erfolge so normal und bescheiden bliebn bist. Dass'd die noch wie vor von jeder blöden präpotenten Oaschgeign mit du anreden losst, super du.
Nun i möchte dazu sagen tatsächlich is es so, dass ich trotz dieser gigantischen Erfolge eigentlich relativ normal geblieben bin. Bin persönlich irrsinnig froh darüber, dass ich mir diese Natürlichkeit habe bewahren können - bewahren habe können - is glaub i nu natürlicher.
Oiso, i bin wirklich vollkommen normal - bliebn. Na ja vielleicht bis auf an Punkt: I brauch ma die Schuach jetzt nimma söba putzn. Die Fans küssen immer den Dreck weg. Und dann gibt's vielleicht an Punkt nu, wo i a bissl aundas bin wie, ähm, die Masse. I brauch den Applaus als Künstler wies Brot. Wirklich i brauch den Applaus. I brauchn net imma. Jetzt hätt in net braucht. Aberm dort wo in wü, dort brauch ich wirklich Applaus und es kann net genug sein. Des wor imma schon so. I hob scho in da Schui extra scho schlechte Noten gschrieben, nur damits daham die Händ zaumschlogn. Hob imma Bravo glesn nochher, nur wengam Titel. Und scho mit zwa Jahr hob i mi in da Kuchl imma verbeigt, wann die Mama Schnitzl klopft hot.
Mit da Zeit hob i mi zu an echten Applaus-Genießer entwickelt. I fohr durchaus hunderte Kilometer um an gaunz bestimmten Applaus zu hören. Mir persönlich am liebsten is dieser wunderbare südfranzösische Applaus, in der Gegend um Avion. Der so ganz deftig anschwillt, und dann so an leichten feinen Ausklang hot - mit so bissl an Pfirsichton. I man i bin kein Purist. Hier und do Audimax Wien worum nicht. Passt guat zu an einfochn Essen. Aber im großen und ganzen mog i doch mehr diese milderen ruhigeren Jahrgänge. So ein abgeklärter Seniorenapplaus fein durchsetzt mit herabfallenden Krücken.

Very Modest

Always after these successful shows, when the screaming of the teenagers slowly subsides and only these unconscious underage girls lie scattered around the hall, that's when these likeable guys in pastel-colored jackets come up to me and say: "Hey Josef, I can call you 'du', right? I'm the purchasing manager at IKEA. Sven, ahh Josef. How did you manage to stay so normal and modest despite this great success? That you still let every stupid prepubescent brat address you with 'du', that's great."
Well, I want to say that it's actually true that I've remained relatively normal despite this gigantic success. I'm personally incredibly happy that I've been able to maintain this naturalness - been able to maintain - is probably even more natural.
So, I've really stayed completely normal. Well, maybe except for one thing: I don't have to polish my shoes myself anymore. The fans always kiss the dirt away. And then there's maybe one more thing where I'm a little different from, um, the masses. As an artist, I need applause like I need bread. Really, I need the applause. I don't always need it. I wouldn't need it now. But where I want it, I really need applause and there can't be enough of it. It's always been like that. I used to write bad grades in school on purpose, just so they would clap their hands at home. I always read Bravo afterwards, just because of the title. And even at two years old, I always bowed in the kitchen when my mom pounded schnitzel.
Over time, I've developed into a true connoisseur of applause. I definitely drive hundreds of kilometers to hear a very specific kind of applause. Personally, I like this wonderful southern French applause the best, in the area around Avion. It swells up so richly and then has a light, fine finish - with a bit of a peach tone. I mean, I'm not a purist. Here and there, Audimax Vienna, why not? Goes well with a simple meal. But on the whole, I prefer these milder, quieter vintages. Such a serene senior citizen applause, finely interspersed with falling crutches.
