Siwieje mrozu brew.
To pora zmierzchów czerwonych,
To pora czarnych drzew.
A wiatr w kominie? pi, bo ciemno.
A ja? Co ja? Co bedzie ze mn¹?
Jeszcze oczy ci rozja? nia
Moje s³owo i mój gest.
Jeszcze? wiece ci jak gwiazda,
Ale to ju¿ nie tak jest.
Jeszcze tyle trzeba przebyæ
Nieweso³ych, bladych zim.
Czy nam zimy wynagrodzi
Letnich ognisk wonny dym?

Still Winter

Still winter, birds are thin,
Thin birds are voiceless.
In the short December afternoons
A bird is silent in a white cloud.
Still winter, smoke wanders,
A cat lives in great poverty
And hums and purrs softly:
When the bumblebee will return...
Under the snow? the world is bent,
The frost's brow is graying.
This is the time of red sunsets,
This is the time of black trees.
And the wind in the chimney? sings, because it's dark.
And me? What about me? What will become of me?
Do my word and my gesture still brighten
Your eyes?
Do I still shine for you like a star,
But it's not like that anymore.
Still so many joyless, pale winters
Need to be endured.
Will the fragrant smoke of summer bonfires
Compensate us for the winters?
