Ich höre rauschend Flügel schlagen, weit da draußen tief im Wind.
Ich höre ihre Laute g'tragen, feenleicht, sanft übers Moor.
Doch hör ich auch mein′ Seele klagen.
Die Hände press ich mir ans Ohr.
Doch so läßt sie sich nicht verstummen.
Sie schreit in meinem Kopf allein, dass sie allein an mir geschehe, mit ihrem Leid und ganzen Schrein.
So wünsch ich mich von dann' zu heben, wo Kraniche Träume jagen.
Ich tauche mit ihnen ins Abendrot, um mit ihrem König zu klagen.

I hear the crickets whisper softly, I hear the reeds sing softly.
I hear their wings beating, far out there in the wind.
I hear their voices carried, fairy-light, softly over the moor.
But I also hear my soul lamenting.
I press my hands to my ears.
But that does not silence her.
She screams in my head alone, that she alone should happen to me, with her suffering and all her crying.
So I wish to rise from there, where cranes hunt dreams.
I dive with them into the sunset, to lament with their king.
