Du brauchst nicht mehr

Der Fortschritt ist ein Menschendrang
Durch den man leicht vergisst,
So mancher Schritt bringt uns weit fort,
Von dem was wichtig ist.
Der Wissensdurst bleibt ungelöscht und ohne Ziel.
Der Wohlstand nimmt das Sättigungsgefühl.
Und wieder flimmert durch die Zimmer um "punkt acht"
Ein Flüchtlingsstrom
Ein Vater trägt am Rücken seinen Sohn
Und sagt:

"Du braucht nicht mehr, als Du tragen kannst.
Du brauchst nicht mehr, als ein Leben ohne Angst
Und dass Du niemals mehr um Deine Kinder bangst.

Ich gehe seither mit ganz and′ren Augen durch die Stadt
Und seh' so viele, die ihr Schicksal her verschlagen hat.
So mancher, dem sie unerwünscht, tut die lautstark kund,
Vergisst kein Mensch verlässt gern seine Heimat ohne jeden Grund.
Man redet viel von Toleranz,
Doch was man spürt ist meist nur dumme Arroganz.

Und für den Fall sollt′ ich mal wieder lust- und kraftlos sein.
Präg'ich mir diese Worte ein:

Progress is a human urge
Through which one easily forgets,
Many a step takes us far away,
From what is important.
The thirst for knowledge remains unquenched and without a goal.
Wealth takes away the feeling of satiety.
And again flickers through the rooms around "eight o'clock"
A stream of refugees
A father carries his son on his back
And says:

"You don't need more than you can carry.
You don't need more than a life without fear
And that you never have to worry about your children again.

Since then I walk through the city with completely different eyes
And see so many whose fate has turned them around.
So many who are unwanted, loudly make it known,
Forgetting that no one willingly leaves their homeland without any reason.
There is much talk of tolerance,
But what one feels is mostly just stupid arrogance.

And in case I should ever feel listless and powerless again.
I'll imprint these words in my mind:
