Nasadiya Suktam
नास॑दासी॒न्नो सदा॑सीत्त॒दानी॒म् नासी॒द्रजो॒ नो व्यो॑मा प॒रो यत्।
किमाव॑रीव॒: कुह॒ कस्य॒ शर्म॒न्नंभ॒: किमा॑सी॒द्गह॑नं गभी॒रम्॥१॥
nāsa'dāsī̱nno sadā'sītta̱dānī̱m nāsī̱drajo̱ no vyo'mā pa̱ro yat |
kimāva'rīva̱ḥ kuha̱ kasya̱ śarma̱nnaṁbha̱ḥ kimā'sī̱dgaha'naṁ gabhī̱ram ||1||
न मृ॒त्युरा॑सीद॒मृतं॒ न तर्हि॒ न रात्र्या॒ अह्न॑ आसीत्प्रके॒तः।
आनी॑दवा॒तं स्व॒धया॒ तदेकं॒ तस्मा॑द्धा॒न्यन्न प॒रः किञ्च॒नास॑॥२॥
na mṛ̱tyurā'sīda̱mṛta̱ṁ na tarhi̱ na rātryā̱ ahna' āasītprake̱taḥ |
ānī'davā̱taṁ sva̱dhayā̱ tadekaṁ̱ tasmā'ddhā̱nyanna pa̱raḥ kiñca̱nāsa' ||2||
तम॑ आसी॒त्तम॑सा गू॒ळ्हमग्रे॑ऽप्रके॒तं स॑लि॒लं सर्व॑मा इ॒दं।
तु॒च्छ्येना॒भ्वपि॑हितं॒ यदासी॒त्तप॑स॒स्तन्म॑हि॒ना जा॑य॒तैकं॑॥ ३॥
tama' āasī̱ttama'sā gū̱ḻhamagre"prake̱taṁ sa'li̱laṁ sarva'mā i̱daṁ |
tu̱cchyenā̱bhvapi'hitaṁ̱ yadāsī̱ttapa'sa̱stanma'hi̱nā jā'ya̱taika'ṁ || 3 ||
काम॒स्तदग्रे॒ सम॑वर्त॒ताधि॒ मन॑सो॒ रेत॑: प्रथ॒मं यदासी॑त्।
स॒तो बन्धु॒मस॑ति॒ निर॑विन्दन् हृ॒दि प्र॒तीष्या॑ क॒वयो॑ मनी॒षा॥४॥
kāma̱stadagre̱ sama'varta̱tādhi̱ mana'so̱ reta'ḥ pratha̱maṁ yadāsī't |
sa̱to bandhu̱masa'ti̱ nira'vindan hṛ̱di pra̱tīṣyā' ka̱vayo' manī̱ṣā ||4||
ति॒र॒श्चीनो॒ वित॑तो र॒श्मिरे॑षाम॒धः स्वि॑दा॒सी ३ दु॒परि॑ स्विदासी ३ त्।
रे॒तो॒धा आ॑सन्महि॒मान॑ आसन्त्स्व॒धा आ॒वस्ता॒त्प्रय॑तिः प॒रस्ता॑त्॥५॥
ti̱ra̱ścīno̱ vita'to ra̱śmire'ṣāma̱dhaḥ svi'dā̱sī 3 du̱pari' svidāsī 3 t |
re̱to̱dhā āa'sanmahi̱māna' āasantsva̱dhā ā̱vastā̱tpraya'tiḥ pa̱rastā't ||5||
को अ॒द्धा वे॑द॒ क इ॒ह प्र वो॑च॒त्कुत॒ आजा॑ता॒ कुत॑ इ॒यं विसृ॑ष्टिः।
अ॒र्वाग्दे॒वा अ॒स्य वि॒सर्ज॑ने॒नाथा॒ को वे॑द॒ यत॑ आब॒भूव॑॥६॥
ko a̱ddhā ve'da̱ ka i̱ha pra vo'ca̱tkuta̱ āajā'tā̱ kuta' i̱yaṁ visṛ'ṣṭiḥ |
a̱rvāgde̱vā a̱sya vi̱sarja'ne̱nāthā̱ ko ve'da̱ yata' āaba̱bhūva' ||6 ||
इ॒यं विसृ॑ष्टि॒र्यत॑ आब॒भूव॒ यदि॑ वा द॒धे यदि॑ वा॒ न।
यो अ॒स्याध्य॑क्षः पर॒मे व्यो॑म॒न्त्सो अ॒ङ्ग वे॑द॒ यदि॑ वा॒ न वेद॑॥ ७॥
i̱yaṁ visṛ'ṣṭi̱ryata' āaba̱bhūva̱ yadi' vā da̱dhe yadi' vā̱ na |
yo a̱syādhya'kṣaḥ para̱me vyo'ma̱ntso a̱ṅga ve'da̱ yadi' vā̱ na veda' || 7 ||

Nasadiya Sukta (From Rigveda)

Nasadiya Suktam
There was neither existence nor non-existence then; there was neither the realm of space nor the sky which is beyond.
What stirred? Where? In whose protection? Was there water, bottomlessly deep? ||1||
nāsa'dāsī̱nno sadā'sītta̱dānī̱m nāsī̱drajo̱ no vyo'mā pa̱ro yat |
kimāva'rīva̱ḥ kuha̱ kasya̱ śarma̱nnaṁbha̱ḥ kimā'sī̱dgaha'naṁ gabhī̱ram ||1||
There was neither death nor immortality then. There was no distinguishing sign of night nor of day.
That One breathed windlessly and self-sustaining. There was that One then, and there was no other. ||2||
na mṛ̱tyurā'sīda̱mṛta̱ṁ na tarhi̱ na rātryā̱ ahna' āasītprake̱taḥ |
ānī'davā̱taṁ sva̱dhayā̱ tadekaṁ̱ tasmā'ddhā̱nyanna pa̱raḥ kiñca̱nāsa' ||2||
Darkness there was, at first concealed in darkness. This All was indiscriminated chaos.
All that existed then was void and formless: by the great power of Warmth was born that One. || 3 ||
tama' āasī̱ttama'sā gū̱ḻhamagre"prake̱taṁ sa'li̱laṁ sarva'mā i̱daṁ |
tu̱cchyenā̱bhvapi'hitaṁ̱ yadāsī̱ttapa'sa̱stanma'hi̱nā jā'ya̱taika'ṁ || 3 ||
Desire first arose in it, which was the primal germ of mind.
Poets seeking in their heart with wisdom found the bond of existence in non-existence. ||4||
kāma̱stadagre̱ sama'varta̱tādhi̱ mana'so̱ reta'ḥ pratha̱maṁ yadāsī't |
sa̱to bandhu̱masa'ti̱ nira'vindan hṛ̱di pra̱tīṣyā' ka̱vayo' manī̱ṣā ||4||
Their cord was extended across. Was there below? Was there above?
There were seed-placers; there were powers. There was impulse beneath; there was giving-forth above. ||5||
ti̱ra̱ścīno̱ vita'to ra̱śmire'ṣāma̱dhaḥ svi'dā̱sī 3 du̱pari' svidāsī 3 t |
re̱to̱dhā āa'sanmahi̱māna' āasantsva̱dhā ā̱vastā̱tpraya'tiḥ pa̱rastā't ||5||
Who really knows? Who will here proclaim it? Whence was it produced? Whence is this creation?
The gods came afterwards, with the creation of this universe.
Who then knows whence it has arisen? ||6 ||
a̱rvāgde̱vā a̱sya vi̱sarja'ne̱nāthā̱ ko ve'da̱ yata' āaba̱bhūva' ||6 ||
Whence this creation has arisen - perhaps it formed itself, or perhaps it did not -
The One who looks down on it, in the highest heaven, only He knows - or perhaps He does not know. || 7 ||
i̱yaṁ visṛ'ṣṭi̱ryata' āaba̱bhūva̱ yadi' vā da̱dhe yadi' vā̱ na |
