Von der Wiege bis zur Bahre
Das eröffnet sich beredt
Dem, der sie zu lesen versteht
Auf den Punkt gebracht, gebündelt, im Telegrammstil kurz und knapp
Das wahre Leben, das wahre Leben spielt sich doch in den Todes-anzeigen ab!

Während ich darüber nachdenk', entdeck' ich das Phänomen
Dass von allen Menschen immer nur die guten Menschen geh'n
Nur die edlen, nur die klugen, nur die mutigen, wie jeder weiss
Nur die Vorbilder entschlafen viel zu früh und sanft und leis
Nur die Guten treten ab und das heißt unabänderlich
Es bleiben nur die Ekel übrig, Leute so wie du und ich
Nur die Schweine leben ewig, aber das erklärt konkret
Warum hierzulande alles langsam den Bach runter geht!

Da steh'n Lügen und Intrigen
Dass die Sargbretter sich biegen
Der Tote sich im Grab umdreht
Für den, der zu lesen versteht
Auf den Punkt gebracht, gebündelt, im Telegrammstil kurz und knapp
Das wahre Leben, das wahre Leben spielt sich doch in den Todes-anzeigen ab!

Oder hat man je gelesen: "Der war längst fällig!" oder gar
Dass der teure Heimgegangene ein schlimmer Stinkefinger war?
"Widerwärtig bis zum Ende, Zwietracht war sein Lebenswerk
Ein Geschwür, ein Spielverderber, ein giftiger, böser Zwerg

Endlich und viel zu spät ist die alte Ratte abgekratzt

So leg ich vorsorglich fest, was eines Tags in meiner steht
Dass mein letztes Inserat nicht auch noch in die Hose geht
Ich will kein "teurer Verblich'ner" und kein "Heimgeruf'ner" sein
Ich will nicht noch 'nen Verriss, ich will keine Lubhudelei'n

"Mein Gott Walter" für den traurigen Anlass umdichten muss!
Ich mach's kurz und ich mach's schmerzlos, ich mach's preiswert und ich grüß'

I'd love to know who this perfect example of a human being is
But unfortunately he just pissed off by peacefully passing away

I'm just studying the obituaries in the Sunday paper

The invented and the true
From the cradle to the grave
It reveals itself eloquently
To those who know how to read them

While I'm thinking about it, I discover the phenomenon
That of all people, only the good people always leave
Only the noble, only the wise, only the brave, as everyone knows
Only the role models pass away far too early and softly and quietly
Only the good ones leave and that means irrevocably
Only the jerks remain, people like you and me
Only the pigs live forever, but that explains concretely
Why everything is slowly going down the drain in this country!

There are lies and intrigues
That make the coffin boards bend
The dead turn in their graves
For those who know how to read them

Or has anyone ever read: "He was long overdue!" or even
That the dear departed was a nasty asshole?

An ulcer, a spoilsport, a poisonous, evil dwarf
That sack always grumbled, ruined every fun for us
Finally and far too late, the old rat kicked the bucket
Finally, the Grim Reaper cut the tick's snout off

So I'll determine in advance what will be in mine one day
So that my last ad doesn't go down the drain too
I don't want to be a "dearly departed" or a "called home"
