Kurti steht vor meiner Tür in dieser Regennacht
In Tränen aufgelöst, hat seinen Hausstand mitgebracht
Unter einem Arm hat er die Isomatte und
Unter dem andern seinen nassen, alten Zottelhund
Und Kurti sagt: "Keule, weißt du wa.?"
Ich sag: "Na klar, daß sie dich wiedermal verlassen hat!"
Er sagt: "Genau, und das Leben hat jetzt keinen Sinn
Mehr!", ich sag: "Komm erstmal rein, das krieg'n wir schon wieder hin!"
"Nein", sagt Kurti, "diesmal nicht, diesmal ist es viel schlimmer
Diesmal ist es vorbei, diesmal ist es für immer!"
Und plötzlich halt ich diesen Riesenkerl im Arm
Und er schluchzt in meinen Nacken, daß Gott erbarm

"Komm in die Küche!", sag ich, "setz dich, erzähl erstmal"
"Ach", sagt er, "sie ist weg und jetzt ist alles ganz egal!"
Ich weiß, wenn ihm ein Wort so auf der Seele brennt
Daß er sich nicht so ohne weit'res davon trennt
Doch dann bricht's aus ihm heraus, dann sprudelt er los
Schüttet sein Herz aus, der nasse Hund will auf den Schoß
Und auf dem Fußboden rings um die zwei entstehn
Aus Regentropfen und aus Tränen kleine schmutzige Seen
Und Kurti sagt: "Du, entschuldige Keule
Wenn ich dir hier die ganze Küche vollheule!"
Und Kurti grummelt leise "Bitte, sei nicht bös
Ich glaub, mein Hund ist etwas undicht, oder ich sach mal: porös"

"Kopf hoch, Kurti!" sag ich, "du bist nicht allein
Irgendwann sind wir doch alle mal hilflos und ganz klein
Sind wir alle so verzweifelt, wie damals als Kind
Als wir eines Nachts von zuhause abgehauen sind
Aber ich bin ja bei dir, na los, komm schon, Mann
Ich hab ein breites Kreuz - sieht man mir nur nicht so an -
Lad deinen Kummer ab, lad ihn mir einfach auf!"
"Ach ja" schluchzt er, "Du bist ja immer so verdammt gut drauf!
Du hast gut lachen, Manno du hast gut reden
Gewinnst doch jeden Blumentopf, Mann, wirklich jeden
So kann nur einer reden, dem alles gelingt
Der sich für den Nabel der Welt hält, nur weil er trällert und singt!"

"Ey Kurti, langsam, paß auf, Alter, krass
Ich wein mir manche Nacht mein Kopfkissen naß
Manchmal knick ich ein und manchmal bin ich ganz still
Wegen 'ner alten Wunde, die nicht heilen will
Manchmal bin ich zu Tod betrübt und weiß nicht warum"
Kurti weint nicht mehr und betrachtet mich stumm
Und ich frag mich, ob er denn nun wirklich nicht weiß
Daß ich manchmal vor Angst in die Tischkante beiß
Ein merkwürd'ges Paar, wie wir beide da sitzen
Ich seh ein Lächeln in seinen Augen aufblitzen
Er wischt die Tränen ab und schneuzt sich glatt
In das Handtuch, mit dem er grad seinen Hund abgetrocknet hat

"Tja, Kurti, keiner hat nur Schuld und keiner hat nur Recht
Keiner ist immer ganz gut und keiner immer ganz schlecht!"
Als ich das sag, merk ich, verzieht sich mein Gesicht
Zu der Grimasse, die man macht, eh man in Tränen ausbricht
Und Kurti sagt: "Also Keule, mach dir nichts draus
Na ja, ich geh dann wohl mal besser wieder nach Haus."
Und ich find keinen Schlaf, ich liege grübelnd wach
Ich denk die ganze Nacht über die arme Socke nach
Ich kenn seinen Schmerz, ich spür' seinen Kummer
Da schrillt das Telefon in meinen ersten Schlummer
Und Kurti fragt: "Keule bist du's?", ich sag: "Ja!"
Und Kurti sagt: "Danke, Alter, sie ist wieder... da!"

Kurti stands at my door on this rainy night
Dissolved in tears, he's brought his belongings with him
Under one arm he has the sleeping mat and
Under the other, his wet, old shaggy dog
And Kurti says: "Keule, you know what?"
I say: "Sure, she left you again!"
He says: "Exactly, and life has no meaning now
Anymore!" I say: "Come in first, we'll get it sorted out!"
"No," says Kurti, "not this time, this time it's much worse
This time it's over, this time it's forever!"
And suddenly I hold this giant guy in my arms
And he sobs into my neck, may God have mercy

"Come to the kitchen!", I say, "sit down, tell me first"
"Oh," he says, "she's gone and now everything doesn't matter!"
I know when a word burns so much on his soul
That he can't just let go of it
But then it bursts out of him, then he gushes
Pours out his heart, the wet dog wants to sit on his lap
And on the floor around the two of them appear
Small dirty lakes from raindrops and tears
And Kurti says: "Hey, excuse me Keule
If I cry all over your kitchen here!"
And Kurti grumbles softly "Please, don't be mad
I think my dog is a bit leaky, or let's say: porous"

"Chin up, Kurti!" I say, "you're not alone
At some point we all feel helpless and very small
We're all as desperate as we were as children
When we ran away from home one night
But I'm with you, come on, man
I have broad shoulders - you just can't see it -
Unload your burden, just put it on me!"
"Oh yeah" he sobs, "You're always in such a damn good mood!
You have it easy, man, you have it easy
You win every flower pot, man, really every one
Only someone who succeeds at everything can talk like that
Who thinks he's the center of the world just because he warbles and sings!"

"Hey Kurti, slow down, watch out, man, seriously
I cry my pillow wet many a night
Sometimes I buckle and sometimes I'm completely silent
Because of an old wound that won't heal
Sometimes I'm sad to death and I don't know why"
Kurti doesn't cry anymore and looks at me silently
And I wonder if he really doesn't know
That sometimes I bite the edge of the table out of fear
A remarkable pair, as we both sit there
I see a smile flash in his eyes
He wipes away the tears and blows his nose smoothly
Into the towel he just used to dry his dog

"Well, Kurti, nobody is only guilty and nobody is only right
Nobody is always completely good and nobody is always completely bad!"
As I say this, I notice my face contorting
Into the grimace you make before you burst into tears
And Kurti says: "So Keule, don't worry about it
Well, I guess I'd better go home again."
And I can't sleep, I lie awake pondering
I think about the poor guy all night long
I know his pain, I feel his sorrow
Then the phone rings in my first slumber
And Kurti asks: "Keule is that you?", I say: "Yes!"
And Kurti says: "Thanks, man, she's back... here!"
