I Vinens Speil

سالها دل طلب جام جم از ما میکرد
وآن چه خود داشت ز بیگانه تمنا میکرد
گوهری کز صدف کُوْن و مکان بیرون است
طلب از گمشدگانِ لبِ دریا میکرد
مشکل خویش بَرِ ِ پیرِ مُغان بردم دوش
کو به تایید نظر حل معما میکرد
دیدمش خرم و خندان، قدحِ باده به دست
و اندر آن آینه صد گونه تماشا میکرد
گفتم: این جام جهان بین به تو کِی داد حکیم؟
گفت: آن روز که این گنبد مینا میکرد
گفت: آن یار، کز او گشت سر دار بلند
جرمش این بود که اسرار هویدا میکرد

The Mirror of Wine

For years, my heart has sought the cup of Jamshid from me,
And what it had itself, it sought from a stranger.
The pearl that is outside the shell of being and place,
It sought from the lost ones on the seashore.
I took my trouble to the wise old man of the tavern last night,
Who with the affirmation of his gaze, would solve the riddle.
I saw him merry and laughing, a cup of wine in his hand,
And in that mirror, he watched a hundred kinds of spectacle.
I said, "When did the wise one give you this world-seeing cup?"
He said, "The day he made this blue dome."
He said, "That friend, because of whom the gallows grew tall,
His crime was that he revealed secrets."
