First, we have Lindsay Rasmussen
Lindsay is the founder and CEO of the Women's Center at
UT Austin, a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending
Violence against women and girls in Austin and beyond
Lindsay, thank you so much for joining us today
Lindsay Rasmussen: Thank you so much for having me
I'm so excited to talk about all the amazing work that you're
Doing and how it's impacting so many women in our community
So tell us a little bit about the Women's Center
What are your goals with the Women's Center?
So how did you get into this work?
Yeah
So I actually started my law career as a prosecutor, so I worked in
The criminal justice system for 10
Years before I started my law firm
And then after that, I wanted to do something more
Meaningful with my time, and so I started looking into
Non-profit organizations and found The Women's Center
And I thought they were doing some really great work
That's awesome
So you've been involved in this work now for almost 20 years
Where were you 20 years ago?
I was an assistant professor of psychology at Texas A&M University
Okay
So you're still in the field, but you were doing something different
Yeah, I was still in the field, but I had switched over to working
With children and families, and that's really where my passion lies
So I've been working with children and families for over 15 years now
And what brought you to the Women's Center?
So how long have you been involved with the Women's Center?
Since its inception
Wow
That's incredible
And so you've been a board member since its inception
Yes, I have
And what has your involvement entailed?
So I'm on the Board of Trustees for the Women's Center
Which means that I help run the organization
And then I also serve as a volunteer coordinator
And that means that I help plan programs and events
And I also help with our fundraising efforts
That's amazing
So you're really involved in everything that the Women's Center does
Do you have a favorite part?
Oh, I love every part
I mean, I just love being able to make a
Difference for women and girls in our community
I love that we get to work with so many different
Partners to make sure that we can provide the services
And supports that women and girls need in our community
That's awesome
