Fulget Crucis mysterium:
Quo carne carnis conditor,
Suspensus est patibulo.

The mystery of the Cross doth glow:
Where the flesh of the Creator
Hangs upon a cruel tree.

Where the Savior hung on high,
By the sharp spear's piercing wound
That we might be cleansed from crime,
Poured forth water mingled with blood.

Now are fulfilled the words of
David's faithful prophecy,
Saying: in the nations
God the Lord reigns from the Tree.

O lovely and radiant tree,
Clad in purple of the King,
Chosen of the worthy log,
To bear such holy limbs.

Blessed the arms, whose branches bore
The ransom of the world,
The balance of His body's weight,
Bore the spoils of hell.

O Cross, our hope, all hail,
In this, the Hour of Passion:
Increase the righteous' righteousness,
And grant forgiveness to the guilty.

O God, Creator, Triune God,
May every spirit praise Thee:
Thou who through the Cross's mystery,
Savest and reignest forever.
