War einmal ein Revoluzzer –
Im Zivilstand Lampenputzer
Ging im Revoluzzerschritt
Mit den Revoluzzern mit!
Und er schrie: "Ich revolüzze!"
Und die Revoluzzermütze
Schob er auf das linke Ohr –
Kam sich höchst gefährlich vor!
Doch die Revoluzzer schritten
Mitten in der Straßen Mitten
Wo er sonsten unverdrutzt
Seine Gaslaternen putzt
Sie vom Boden zu entfernen
Rupfte man die Gaslaternen
Aus dem Straßenpflaster aus –
Zwecks des Barrikadenbaus!
Aber unser Revoluzzer
Schrie: "Ich bin der Lampenputzer
Dieses guten Leuchtelichts –
Bitte, bitte, tut ihm nichts!
Wenn wir ihn′ das Licht ausdrehen
Kann kein Bürger nichts mehr sehen –
Lasst die Lampen stehn, ich bitt'!
Denn sonst spiel ich nicht mehr mit!"
Doch die Revoluzzer lachten
Und die Gaslaternen krachten
Und der Lampenputzer schlich
Fort und weinte bitterlich!
Dann ist er zu Haus′ geblieben
Und hat dort ein Buch geschrieben:
Nämlich, wie man revoluzzt –
Und dabei doch Lampen putzt!

The Revolutionary (live)

There once was a revolutionary –
In a civilian status, a lamplighter
Walked in the revolutionary pace
With the revolutionaries with!
And he shouted: "I revolt!"
And the revolutionaries' cap
He pushed onto his left ear –
Felt extremely dangerous!
But the revolutionaries stepped
Right through the middle of the road
Where he usually, undismayed
Cleans his gas street lamps
To lift them from the ground
They tore the gas street lamps
Out of the street pavement –
For the sake of building a barricade!
But our revolutionary
Shouted: "I am the lamplighter
Of this good lighting light –
Please, please, don't do anything to it!
If we make this light go out
No citizen can see anything anymore –
Leave the lamps alone, I beg you!
Otherwise I won't play anymore!"
But the revolutionaries laughed
And the gas street lamps crashed
And the lamplighter sneaked away
And cried bitterly!
Then he stayed home
And wrote a book there:
Namely, how to revolt –
And still clean lamps!
