I came in on the back end of it

We'll spit out ideas and these co-writers
You know, everybody brings ideas to the table or somebody

And start kicking something around and I come in would join up on it

But this song is one of the very few that Cledus T. Judd sent me
(Wow) all night, he'd call me
Of all people?
Yeah, I mean

And ask way out of left field
What people don't know about Cledus is Cledus is a funny guy
(Hmm) everybody knows that about him
But a lot of people don't know about Cledus is he's got one of the biggest and best hearts

(Hmm) anybody you know
And you hear it all the time
That sometimes the funniest people you know are the most troubled people you know

(Absolutely) Cledus went through some
Some hard times
And made some life changes and some choices and baddest relationship we got

Takes it very, very seriously, man
I think he's travelling around and just do the spoken word record

What's what's up about it
Expect from him, maybe (right?)
But extremely serious about the word records (hmm)

And then nothing
He's been travelling around
Speaking at some churches but he call me and
Damn, it's hardly one morning (hmm)

And I don't wake up, you know
Usually during touring season
I don't wake up till noon or later

So I stay up till four, five
That's only time between midnight and four, five
That's the only time my phone won't blow up

And I actually have time to gather my thoughts
But he called me one morning said

And this is happen to me in times in the past and I was like

I-I'll listen to it tonight
And I play it on, you know

I-I'd listen to stuff like he had that he'd send me
If I was getting dragged out, one night
And needed a break and needed something to lift the spirits
Or just crack me up real quick

Bet it him but this one
I'd put in and from the minute I heard the demo they had that

First piano note just some resonated
I don't know how to explain it but
I am telling you there were something about it

And I was waiting to hear the punch line and I was just waiting on it
Because half of it made me funny and it (right)
Didn't happen

The opposite happen
It got real serious but
In an awesome way (hmm)

And honestly, I had wrestled with three or four different song ideas that I've had going
You know, each record has a few songs that pertain particularly to my faith
(Hmm) and these wouldn't

I was kinda wrestling with three or four ideas
They just wouldn't do what I wanted them to do
They wouldn't submit

They just wouldn't come together
And I listen to this thing and when I heard what they had
It floored me

And I knew there was something to it
And I called them and tell them I said, man
Here's where I stand on it
I don't know that I wanna touch that

If you all have somebody that you wanna pitch that to
Would like it is
I don't wanna screw it up

He said, I send it to you because I want you to do your thing with it
Make it yours
Change what you feel like you need to change
And I did that and send it back to him and

You know the other co-writers liked what I didn't
I don't really know how to explain that song
I think it's one of those things that you just have to listen for yourself
With open ears and an open heart

Let it playlist and till
See what it does
See what it moves 'cause it moves something

Yeah, it does
I-It's so convicting and just
I mean, if you have of anything of god on your heart or your spirit
I mean, it will stir it

Even people that don't necessarily believe
Or there are people that I know in my life that I played that song to
And once I devout I i-its (oh, wow)

And straight up sub
You know, how I am but it's amazing there are something special there
Who know what it is (there are other way for people to hear it)

And I think they're gonna be just surprised because it's sort of a different look for you
But it's such a beautiful song and you did such an amazing job with it that I just love it

The fella that play keys on that song, name was Gordon Mote
And he's blind (hmm)

Was nobody gave me a heads up on that before he came to the studio
(Hahahahah) and uh
He went on with his song and I'm so happy that Dann Huff brought him and to play that song

Meeting him and spending that day with him made me a better person
(Oh, cool)

He's just an unbelievable man
And, you know
From everything that he made like small comments
At one point it was something like
I can't remember word for word

It was something like
You know, people tell me that I can't imagine going through life not being able to see
And to me I can't imagine going through life being able to see
I'm scared I missed too much (oh, wow)

'Cause he hears things and feel things
This man can tell you like us
Sitting here talking (yeah)

He can tell you what key your speaking voices in (oh, wow)
And he wanted to try the song without the clip (oh, wow)
So without anything keeping the song tempo
We went in and he was listening to my breath

He was listening to me singing play (hmm)
And I've never heard anybody play a piano like that
Ever (that's amazing)

And and there's an unbelievable human being
Him playing that song in the studio
I just feel like I don't know
It's one of those songs it's like

One hell then I'm in
I don't know what's it gonna do (hmm)
But I know it's gonna do something

I think it's gonna move people in great ways

Peux-tu me parler un peu de "Trois Pieds d'Eau" ?
Et juste
Je veux dire, à quel point cette chanson est puissante
Et ta foi, et le fait de pouvoir un peu la montrer.

Pour être franc à propos de cette chanson,
je suis arrivé à la fin du processus.
Ce n'est pas une chose que j'ai l'habitude de faire,
ce n'est pas quelque chose que je fais souvent.

J'aime être là dès le début.
Souvent, sur la route,
on lance des idées et ces co-auteurs,
tu sais, tout le monde apporte des idées, ou quelqu'un,

tu sais, Brian,
et on peut être assis dans le bus
et commencer à travailler sur quelque chose, et j'arrive et je me joins à eux.

Mais cette chanson est l'une des rares que Cledus T. Judd m'a envoyée.

et il demandait des choses complètement inattendues.
Ce que les gens ne savent pas sur Cledus, c'est que c'est un gars drôle,

moments difficiles
et a fait des changements de vie et des choix, et la meilleure relation que nous avons

il la prend très, très au sérieux.
Je pense qu'il voyage et fait juste des enregistrements de spoken word.

C'est ce qu'il en est.
C'est ce qu'on attend de lui, peut-être (n'est-ce pas ?)
Mais il est extrêmement sérieux au sujet des enregistrements spoken word (hmm).

Et puis plus rien.
Il a voyagé,
il a parlé dans des églises, mais il m'a appelé et
mince, il était à peine une heure du matin (hmm).

Et je ne me réveille pas, tu sais,
habituellement pendant la saison des tournées,
je ne me réveille pas avant midi ou plus tard.

Donc je reste éveillé jusqu'à quatre, cinq heures.
C'est le seul moment entre minuit et quatre, cinq heures
où mon téléphone n'explose pas.

Et j'ai enfin le temps de rassembler mes pensées.
Mais il m'a appelé un matin et m'a dit :
"Mec, pourquoi tu n'écouterais pas quelque chose pour moi ?" et
c'est déjà arrivé dans le passé, et j'étais comme :

"D'accord, cool.
Je l'écouterai ce soir."
Et je le joue, tu sais,

j'écoutais des trucs comme ça qu'il m'envoyait
si j'étais épuisé un soir
et que j'avais besoin d'une pause et de quelque chose pour me remonter le moral
ou juste me faire rire un peu.

(Ouais) ouais.
Je parie que c'est lui, mais celui-ci,
je l'ai mis et dès la minute où j'ai entendu la démo qu'ils avaient,

la première note de piano a résonné en moi.
Je ne sais pas comment l'expliquer, mais
je te dis qu'il y avait quelque chose de spécial.

Et j'attendais d'entendre la chute, j'attendais vraiment.
Parce que la moitié m'a fait rire et (c'est vrai)
ce n'est pas arrivé.

Le contraire s'est produit.
C'est devenu très sérieux, mais
d'une manière géniale (hmm).

Et honnêtement, j'avais travaillé sur trois ou quatre idées de chansons différentes que j'avais en cours.
Tu sais, chaque album a quelques chansons qui se rapportent particulièrement à ma foi
(Hmm) et celles-ci ne le faisaient pas.

Je me battais avec trois ou quatre idées.
Elles ne faisaient tout simplement pas ce que je voulais qu'elles fassent.
Elles ne se soumettaient pas.

Elles ne s'assemblaient tout simplement pas.
Et j'ai écouté ce truc et quand j'ai entendu ce qu'ils avaient,
ça m'a terrassé.

Et je savais qu'il y avait quelque chose.
Et je les ai appelés et je leur ai dit : "Mec,
voilà où j'en suis.
Je ne sais pas si je veux toucher à ça.

Si vous avez quelqu'un à qui vous voulez la proposer,
allez-y.
Je ne veux pas la gâcher."

Il a dit : "Je te l'ai envoyée parce que je veux que tu fasses ton truc avec.
Que tu te l'appropries.
Change ce que tu as envie de changer."
Et j'ai fait ça et je lui ai renvoyée et

tu sais, les autres co-auteurs ont aimé ce que j'ai fait.
Je ne sais pas vraiment comment expliquer cette chanson.
Je pense que c'est une de ces choses qu'il faut juste écouter soi-même
avec des oreilles ouvertes et un cœur ouvert.

Laisse-la jouer et
vois ce qu'elle fait.
Vois ce qu'elle remue, parce qu'elle remue quelque chose.

Ouais, c'est vrai.
Elle est tellement convaincante et juste
je veux dire, si tu as quoi que ce soit de Dieu dans ton cœur ou ton esprit,
elle va le remuer.

Même les gens qui ne croient pas forcément,
ou il y a des gens que je connais dans ma vie à qui j'ai joué cette chanson
et une fois que je... (oh, wow)

et carrément
tu sais comment je suis, mais c'est incroyable, il y a quelque chose de spécial là-dedans.
Qui sait ce que c'est (il y a une autre façon pour les gens de l'entendre).

Et je pense qu'ils vont être surpris parce que c'est un style différent pour toi.
Mais c'est une chanson si belle et tu as fait un travail si incroyable avec que je l'adore.

Le studio,
le gars qui joue du piano sur cette chanson, s'appelle Gordon Mote
et il est aveugle (hmm).

Personne ne m'avait prévenu avant qu'il ne vienne au studio.
(Hahahahah) et euh
il a continué avec sa chanson et je suis si heureux que Dann Huff l'ait amené pour jouer cette chanson

parce que j'ai l'impression que
le rencontrer et passer cette journée avec lui m'a rendu meilleur.
(Oh, cool)

C'est un homme incroyable.
Et, tu sais,
de tout ce qu'il a dit, comme des petits commentaires,
à un moment donné, c'était quelque chose comme :
je ne me souviens pas mot pour mot,

c'était quelque chose comme :
"Tu sais, les gens me disent que je ne peux pas imaginer traverser la vie sans pouvoir voir,
et pour moi, je ne peux pas imaginer traverser la vie en pouvant voir.
J'ai peur d'avoir raté trop de choses." (oh, wow)

Parce qu'il entend des choses et ressent des choses.
Cet homme peut te dire, comme nous
assis ici à parler (ouais),

il peut te dire dans quelle tonalité est ta voix parlée. (oh, wow)
Et il voulait essayer la chanson sans le clic. (oh, wow)
Donc sans rien pour garder le tempo de la chanson,
on y est allés et il écoutait ma respiration.

Il m'écoutait chanter (hmm)
et je n'ai jamais entendu personne jouer du piano comme ça,
jamais. (c'est incroyable)

Et c'est un être humain incroyable.
Le voir jouer cette chanson en studio,
j'ai juste l'impression, je ne sais pas,
c'est une de ces chansons, c'est comme

un sacré truc.
Je ne sais pas ce qu'elle va faire (hmm)
mais je sais qu'elle va faire quelque chose.

Je pense qu'elle va toucher les gens de manière extraordinaire.
