Where I'm from became independent, a new era
The age-old story – Power Corrupts
Ojukwu declared Biafra and now it erupts
Into a brutal three year long civil war
Followed by coup after coup and very little more
In 1993, it got real to me
I truly had visions of a new democracy
When MKO won what was hailed a fair election
The Naira strengthened
The tension lessened
The military government felt threatened
And placed Abiola in detention
Pay attention
The world watched with no intervention
'It makes no sense to help them

National interests overrule principles
