بشنو از نی چون حکایت می کند
از جدایی ها، از جدایی ها شکایت می کند

از نیستان تا مرا بُبریده اند

از نفیرم مرد و زن نالیده اند

سینه خواهم شَرحه شَرحه از فراق
تا بگویم شرح درد اشتیاق
هر کسی، هر کسی کو دور ماند از اصل خویش
باز جوید روزگار وصل خویش

من به هر جمعیتی نالان شدم
جفت خوشحالان و بدحالان شدم
هر کسی از ظنّ خود شد یار من
از درون من نجست اسرار من

آتش است این بانگ نای و نیست باد
هر که این آتش ندارد نیست باد
نی حدیث راه پُرخون می کند
قصّه های عشق مجنون می کند

من به هر جمعیتی نالان شدم
جفت خوشحالان و بدحالان شدم
نی حدیث راه پُرخون می کند
قصّه های عشق مجنون می کند
آتش است این بانگ نای و نیست باد
هر که این آتش ندارد نیست باد

Listen to the tale which the flute recites,
Of separation, of separation it complains.

Since I was cut from the reed bed,

Men and women from my lamentations sighed.

I would willingly be cut into a thousand pieces
So that I might tell the story of the pain of longing.
Anyone, anyone who has been separated from his origin
Will always seek the day of his reunion.

I lamented in every company
I became a companion to the happy and the sorrowful,
Everyone interpreted me according to his own thoughts,
He did not seek my secrets from within me.

This sound of the flute is fire, not wind
Anyone who does not possess this fire should not exist.
