Na ilha dos ladrões, quem sai?
E leva este recado ao cais:
São penas, são sinais. Adeus.
Livra-me da fome que me consome, deste frio;
Livra-me do mal desse animal que é este cio;
Livra-me do fado e se puderes abençoado
Leva-me a mim a voar pelo ar!
Como se houvesse um encanto, uma estranha magia,
O sol lentamente flutua nas margens do dia.
Despe o meu corpo corsário, seca-me a veia maruja,
Morde-me o peito aos ais, das brigas, dos punhais,

The Island

We silently observe everything on the beach line
With our eyes fixed on the night under the fading sky;
Oh moon of October, you bring rain and wind,

Mullets and catfish descend from clouds of wonder
If birds cradle fish in certain miracles;
The soul's body levitates, in the crying of litanies,
In the prayers of the condemned, in the curses of the besieged,
Who will escape from the island of thieves?

They are punishments, signals. Farewell.
Free me from the hunger that consumes me, this cold;
Free me from the evil of this animal that is lust;
