As my smile beams ear to ear
I can't believe what I hear
So much talent in my eight-year-old child
An inch full of direction
Her comprehension runs for miles
I must write to this brilliance
I must fill in her spaces
Her picture leaves traces on my spine
Her beat is the backbone to my poem
So we go
Hand in hand
Like days gone by except now, she leads

Cuz she feels free
I must admit it's scary
How far she is ahead of me
Before my ninth birthday
I wasn't even thinking on this level
No bass or treble
I was more likely in trouble
Turning rocks to rubble
Instead my favorite color builds
Like Lego erector sets
Outrageously blessed
I marvel at her Storm
It's not the norm
Like Rogue she absorbs powers to be stronger than me

And I welcome her destiny
No pause for her cause
No hold on her bold
I say go be great
Go forth and create
Legacies for all to see
For all to achieve and believe
The universe of possibilities
Brush past the indignities of past lives
For amazing we strive
And it is in your reach
It's your birthright to teach
Us to be better for humanity
To avoid calamity
And societal insanity

As your growth rises like tidal waves
