I sit in therapy and though it feels like medicine
When you dig deep enough
You're bound to go and find those skeletons
Can't blame the smaller me for wanting to just bury them
I wasn't yet mature enough to face the stormy weather then
And so I ran away and found some shelter from all
Couldn't face my demons
So they found some new ways to evolve
And now there's monsters in my head constantly screaming at me
I lay in bed and ask what's keeping me from being happy
Past relationships and past lives
Traumatized from the hurt buried deep inside
Survival mode all the time in a state of panic
Manic and depressed but I'm still blessed to simply be alive
So I put on my big boy shoes
It's one step at a time
Get to work
Pay my dues
Set my frame of mind
I tell myself that it will all be fine
Everyday fighting like hell to leave these ghosts behind

It wasn't your fault that I hadn't yet learned how to deal
Traumas and triggers that somehow I managed to conceal
The wounds eventually heal
But scars still remain
Remnants of yesterday's pain still inside the brain
At times you felt the blame for someone else's mess
I'm awful sorry for the times I wasn't at my best
I wish you could have met me when I wasn't broken yet
Before all of the drama sets that I'm still hoping to forget
You have your traumas too
So yeah it's both of us
We needed one another to learn how to open up
I guess my problem was I always looked to save you
And pointed at the goodwill that I gave you to enslave you
I'm finally seeing clearly what you tried to tell me then
And I'm hoping that you let me try again
I've got some patterns that I know have to break
Ghosts occupying space that they won't evacuate

Some of us were abandoned
Some of us betrayed
Some of us abused by those who chose to stay
And some of us try really hard to go and walk away
But find a new excuse to use to stay another day
It pretty sad how they were those that we held close
The ones we loved the most
That spelled us with these ghosts
So many broken people
Such an awful mess
The longer we ignore the pain the worse it often gets
Trauma gets handed down one generation to the next
We quietly accept all things we don't reject
I hope you go and get the help you truly need
So that these ghosts no longer have a place to go and feed
I hope you go and get the help you truly need
So that our seeds are freed from all the ghosts we breed
