Give me a heart of stone, dead of feeling,
So my chest will stop heaving with silence,
Darkness in my eyes, silence from my lips,
And drive oblivion through my memory.

Perhaps that will heal and free me
From the cruel inhumanity of tenderness,
I shall dry up slowly, gradually,
But I shall have lived, suffered and tormented myself more simply.
