Und auch heut komm ich kaum mehr zum Schlafen

I'll Get Old

Every morning it happens again:
How do I fool my mirror today?
I suck in my tummy and comb my hair
Back to where it used to be.

Even the wrinkles are hardly there
I simply don't put on my glasses.
And with youthful vitality
My day then takes its course.

I'm getting old - I think I'm getting old
Sometimes it gets pretty cold
Who knows where we'll fall then
Take a look at me - I'm getting old.

And just out of old habits
I turn around to look at the girls.
I look deep into their eyes.
But they look around me.

I turned night into day
What applause there was for that.
And even today I can hardly sleep
Because I have to go out to pee all the time.

And so one lives beside oneself
In eternal self-deception.
One would always like to be the same
Just not the one that one is right now.

Oh in the end it's not something else
That counts:
How openly do you look at yourself
In your eternally old face.

And how I like it,
No longer to be young by force,
Look at me - I'm getting old!
