Látom az Alföldről hajnalpirkadatkor
Eltűnnni fényüket a látóhatárról

Göncölszekér rúdját, Erdély szegletéből
Apró gyertyalángként mutatják az utat
S hazáig vezetik kóborló fiukat
Látom a Tiszának s Murának vizében
Tükröződni fényük vajdasági éjben
Halászok hálóján gyöngysorként csillognak
Mint akik az égről búsan aláhulltak
Látom nagy hegyekről, oly, de oly közelről
Kéznyújtásra vannak palócok földjéről
Mint ezernyi mécses pislákoló fénye
Kigyúl, majd elalszik, estéről estére
Látom tündöklésük Kárpátok aljáról
Ott tekintenek le sötét égboltjáról
Hol szabad tűz mellett vadászok regélnek
S míg egymást hallgatják, ők is fel-felnéznek
Látom sugarukat megtörni a Rábán
Rég kiszolgált malmok korbácsolta fodrán
Őrségi házaknak kicsiny ablakán át
Figyelik a csillag örök vándorlását

When I see a star shining in the sky
I see what my ancestors saw in days gone by
I see it from the Great Plains at the break of dawn
Its light disappearing beyond the horizon
I see it looking up from a spruce forest
The pole of the Big Dipper, from the corner of Transylvania
Like tiny candle flames, they show the way
And guide their wandering son home
I see it in the waters of the Tisza and the Mur
Their light reflected in the Vojvodina night
They glitter like beads on the fishermen's nets
As if they had fallen Sadly from the sky
I see it from the great mountains, oh so close
Within reach from the land of the Palóc people
Like a thousand flickering candle lights
They ignite and then fade, night after night
I see their glow at the foot of the Carpathians
There they look down from their dark celestial sphere
Where hunters tell tales by the open fire
And while they listen to each other, they too look up
I see their rays refracting in the Rába
On the rippling waters churned by old, abandoned mills
Through the tiny windows of Örség houses
They watch the eternal wandering of the stars
