Brand New Lease On Life

Twenty-something years ago
I was watching Scotty grow
And he grew up to be a fine young man
But he did it in spite of me
I really wasn't there to see
I was too busy being me in a five-man band
But the good Lord works in strange and wondrous ways
And now Scotty's watching Daddy grow these days

I got a second chance to start the dance all over
I got two left feet, but at least I'm dancing sober
I've turned my life around, I'm on the mend
The family's found an old lost friend
I got two new kids and an angel for a wife
Looks like I've got a brand-new lease on life

It's so nice to start the day hearing little kids at play
And waking up instead of just coming to
Being a part of the family
Bouncing babies on my knee
And watching Big Bird on TV beats the morning blue
I'm so thankful for this dream I'm living in
Now I can stop and smell the roses once again

I've had a change of heart, a chance to start all over
I'm on a roll again, and I'm rolling in sweet clover
I got some hills to climb, but the future is bright
This time I'm going to get it right

Now mama and the boys have a daddy who's really there
A new best friend with love and time to share
And I got a dream and songs to sing
