Eu nasci num campo aberto bem distante da cidade
E vivi os primeiros anos da minha vida
Com papai e mamãe em completa felicidade
O meu pai me levava com ele em todos os cantos
E mamãe com o seu manto me cobria todas as noites na hora de se deitar
Quando o dia amanhecia eu já corria lá pro terreiro a brincar
E meu pai logo vinha pra me colocar na garupa do seu cavalo
E saia comigo pra galopar
Colocava o seu chapéu na minha nuca e eu ia
Gritando "upa" "upa" fazendo aquela arruaça
E minha mãe achava graça vendo de longe a gente brincar
Um certo dia um domingo de manhã
Era o meu sexto aniversario e eu nem sabia
Foi quando eu vi o meu pai chegando da cidade
Puxando um burrinho pampa eu achei até que não era verdade
Mas quando ele chegou me deu um beijo e me abraçou
E me colocou em cima do arreio daquele burrinho e desse jeito falou
Meu filho você sabe que o seu pai não tem dinheiro
Mas nunca nada lhe faltou
Eu já sofri muito na vida
E pouca coisa pra mim restou
Mas eu tenho um orgulho tão profundo
E é dois tesouros que Deus não me negou
Um é sua mãe que eu amo tanto
E outro é você que é a maior alegria que eu tenho nesse mundo
E de hoje em diante você não precisa mais
Da minha garupa pra brincar de "upa" "upa"
Você já mereceu você é um menino esperto e eu tenho certeza que
Aqui por perto ninguém tem um burrinho tão bonito que nem o seu
Foi tanta a minha euforia que eu pulava de alegria eu
Beijei tanto meu pai naquele dia que ele até se comoveu
Eu ia lá na estrada galopava e voltava
Ia lá na roça galopava nas paióças
E todo mundo que eu via eu já corria
Pra mostrar o burrinho que o meu pai me deu
Quando o meu pai ia pra cidade com o burrinho eu acompanhava
Foi a melhor fase da minha vida na volta
Pra casa à gente sempre apostava corrida
E ele sempre deixava eu ganhar
Pros meus amiguinhos eu sempre falava do orgulho que eu
Tinha e que pai melhor do que o meu no mundo não existia
Todos os dias eu ia com o meu burrinho na escola
E a tarde eu voltava correndo com os meus cadernos amarrados na garupa
E vinha galopando alegre e contente vendo meu
Pai lá na porteira me esperando pra me abraçar
Era tanta a felicidade que eu sentia que ate
Parecia que aquilo tudo era um sonho que eu vivia
E que nunca iria se acabar
Mas esse foi o meu maior engano por que
Quando chegou o final do ano no último dia de aula
Eu vinha voltando da escola cortando meu
Burrinho na espora naquela pressa de chegar
De longe eu vi a porteira, mas o meu pai não estava lá
Quando eu fui chegando em casa já vi um monte de gente chorando
E já foram me segurando dizendo que eu não podia entrar
Todos me olhavam com pena enquanto eu ouvia alguém
Falando que aquilo não era cena que uma criança pudesse olhar
Mas eu não entendia o que aquela gente toda fazia
E por que eles não me deixavam entrar
Foi quando eu vi a minha mãe que veio
Até a porta se ajoelhou na minha frente
E me abraçou e me apertou tão forte ela chorava
Tanto que o seu pranto gelava nas minhas costas
E olhando a nossa volta havia um silêncio em cada rosto
E minha mãe naquele desgosto olhou bem dentro dos meus olhos
Que nessa hora já não tinha mais aquele brilho de alegria
Por que eu sentia que a noticia não era boa
Mas ela não me dizia por que as palavras não saiam de sua boca
Mas olhando nos olhos dela eu via
Uma infinita luz de tristeza
Que me fez olhar pra aquele monte de velas acesas
Lá no meio da sala e imaginar
Que aquela coisa estranha feita de
Madeira é que era a razão de toda aquela tristeza
E que era o meu pai que estava lá
Mas eu não queria acreditar
Peguei meu burrinho pampa descambei
Nas embernadas e o meu pai fui procurar
E na inocência de criança por todos os
Cantos eu procurava eu corria eu gritava
Papai, papai, papai, onde o senhor está?
Chega de trabalhar ta ficando tarde vamos
Pra casa eu ainda tenho tanto pra lhe falar
Eu tenho uma noticia tão boa pra te dar
O senhor já deve até estar comemorando papai
Eu passei de ano e eu queria tanto lhe abraçar
Mas agora eu estou com medo eu estou chorando papai
E porque o senhor não me aparece nessa hora pra me ajudar?
O senhor sempre foi o meu herói sempre dizia pra mamãe
Que o senhor nunca ficaria longe de nós
E hoje o senhor não me esperou lá na porteira
E eu que te procurei a tarde inteira e ainda não consegui te encontrar
Ta escurecendo papai e eu tenho medo de voltar pra casa sozinho
Tem um monte de gente estranha lá
Por favor papai vem comigo o senhor
Queria tanto que eu passasse de ano
Vai lá e diz pra aquela gente toda que aquilo tudo foi um engano
E que o senhor só se demorou por que a
Gente tava brincando de apostar corrida
E que pela primeira vez na sua vida o senhor tinha conseguido ganhar
Que tristeza tão grande meu velho pai
O senhor me causou naquele dia e eu que
Reclamei tanto quando eu não te vi lá na porteira
Naquele dia me esperando pra me abraçar
Mas agora eu tenho a vida inteira pra te pedir desculpas
E pelas tantas vezes que eu insistia
Pra que o senhor me levasse na garupa
E o senhor não podia por que tava trabalhando
E eu ficava ali insistindo te perturbando
Ate que o senhor se comovia e num gesto de paciência colocava eu na
Sua garupa e eu te abraçava e o
Senhor dava risada de ver a minha alegria
E aquela folia toda que eu aprontava
Mas uma coisa meu velho pai
Que por muitos anos eu não te perdoava
É que em todas as nossas corridas o senhor sempre deixava eu ganhar
Mas aquela que seria a mais importante
Da minha vida o senhor me deixou pra trás
E até hoje, até hoje eu ainda não consegui te alcançar
Eu era tão feliz meu pai e eu sei que foi o
Destino que quis que aquele sonho um dia acabasse
E eu esperei tanto para que o
Senhor voltasse pra me fazer de novo feliz
Mas agora eu já tenho dezesseis anos de idade
E minha corrida agora é contra a dor e a saudade
Por que eu sei que na realidade hoje eu estou sozinho
Nas mãos de Deus o senhor sabe a mamãe também já morreu
E eu sinto tanta falta dos seus carinhos
Sabe meu pai eu sei que é difícil viver neste mundo sozinho
Mas ainda eu tenho meu burrinho
Aquele mesmo que o senhor um dia me deu
Agora ele esta grande ficou bonito cresceu
E hoje eu sei que ele sofre tanto quanto eu
Por que ele sabe a falta que o senhor me faz
De vez em quando meu pai eu saio galopando com ele pela estrada
E às vezes eu passo para trás o arreio e vou sentado
Na garupa olhando pra aquele arreio vazio na minha frente
Imaginando o senhor ali sentado e eu abraçado na sua cintura
Parece que eu sinto até o cheiro das suas costas da sua camisa suada
Do sol quente do mormaço e de repente olho pros meus braços
E sinto aquele vazio com o coração quase
Parando enquanto o burro vai calando os seus passos
E eu fico ali parado engolindo as lagrimas
E os soluços que na garganta vem apertando
Triste sina do meu passado que ainda vive me machucando
E a vida que tudo ensina já me ensinou
Um ditado que pra mim é o mais profundo
Amar os pais enquanto eles tem vida por que depois de eles
Enterrados não tem remédio nesse mundo que pode curar essa ferida

Poem "Burrinho Pampa" (Soundtrack: Lonely Violeiro)

I was born in an open field, far away from the city,
And I lived the first years of my life
With Mom and Dad in complete happiness.
My father took me with him everywhere,
And Mom, with her cloak, covered me every night at bedtime.
When the day dawned, I would run out to the yard to play,
And my father would soon come to put me on the back of his horse
And go out with me to gallop.
He would put his hat on the back of my neck, and I would go,
Shouting "Giddy up!" "Giddy up!" Making such a ruckus,
And my mother would laugh, watching us play from afar.
One day, a Sunday morning,
It was my sixth birthday, and I didn't even know it.
That's when I saw my father coming from the city,
Pulling a pampa donkey; I thought it wasn't even real.
But when he arrived, he kissed and hugged me
And put me on top of that little donkey's harness and said:
"My son, you know your father doesn't have money,
But he's never lacked anything.
I've suffered a lot in life,
And there's little left for me.
But I have such deep pride
In the two treasures that God did not deny me:
One is your mother, whom I love so much,
And the other is you, the greatest joy I have in this world.
And from today on, you don't need anymore

My euphoria was so great that I jumped for joy.
I kissed my father so much that day that he was even moved.

When my father went to the city with the donkey, I went with him.
It was the best time of my life; on the way

And that there was no better father than mine in the world.
Every day I went to school with my donkey,
And in the afternoon, I would come back running with my notebooks tied to the harness,
And come galloping, happy and content, watching my
Father at the gate, waiting to hug me.
The happiness I felt was so great that it
Seemed like it was all a dream I was living
And that it would never end.
But that was my biggest mistake because
When the end of the year came, on the last day of school,
I was coming back from school, spurring my
Donkey in a hurry to get there.
From afar I saw the gate, but my father was not there.
When I got home, I saw a lot of people crying,
And they held me back, saying I couldn't go in.
Everyone looked at me with pity while I heard someone
Saying that this was not a scene a child should see.
But I didn't understand what all those people were doing
And why they wouldn't let me in.
That's when I saw my mother; she came
To the door, knelt in front of me,
And hugged me so tightly, she cried
So much that her tears froze on my back.
Looking around, there was silence on every face,
And my mother, in that grief, looked deep into my eyes,
Which by then no longer held that sparkle of joy
Because I felt the news was not good,
But she didn't tell me because the words wouldn't come out of her mouth.
But looking into her eyes, I saw
An infinite light of sadness
That made me look at that pile of lit candles
There in the middle of the room and imagine

I took my pampa donkey, got off

Stopping while the donkey slows down.
And I stand there, swallowing the tears
And the sobs that come squeezing my throat.
Sad fate of my past that still hurts me.
And life, which teaches everything, has taught me
A saying that for me is the most profound:
"Love your parents while they are alive because after they
Are buried, there is no remedy in this world that can heal that wound."
