Summer Monologue

The sun sets and the streetlights flick on, noticing the twilight
Hesitantly, sparse shadows start to head home
The wind crossing that railroad crossing makes me think of you
The express train races past, and sweet memories flicker and die
How many of my dreams did I leave behind at the end of summer?
Surely you were hiding your tears
An old monologue washes over me in waves
The silhouette of a building floats in the night, its windows illuminated
Uncharacteristically, it reflects those days we spent together so carelessly
Unable to say goodbye I let myself be carried away by the flow of time
I'm still searching for words
In the monochrome of summer
In the western sky, a night flight connects the stars
As if counting the wishes of someone waiting far away
In the long shadows of dusk where did we look, I wonder?
There are paths I couldn't cross
In the midst of irreplaceable moments there are important things left unsaid
There are feelings we realize only when they are gone
