The Enormous Turnip

A turnip did grow and grow and grow
Until it was enormous
An old man tried to pull it up
He pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled
But couldn't pull up the turnip

The old man asked his wife to help
To help pull up the turnip
The wife pulled the man
The old man tried to pull it up
They pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled
But couldn't pull up the turnip

The old man's wife then asked a boy
To help pull up the turnip
The boy pulled the wife
The wife pulled the man
The old man tried to pull it up
They pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled
But couldn't pull up the turnip

The boy then asked a girl to help
To help pull up the turnip
The girl pulled the boy
The boy pulled the wife
The wife pulled the man
The old man tried to pull it up
They pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled
But couldn't pull up the turnip

The girl then called out to a dog
The dog called a cat
The cat called a mouse
To help pull up the turnip

The mouse pulled the cat
The cat pulled the dog
The dog pulled the girl
The girl pulled the boy
The boy pulled the wife
The wife pulled the man
The old man tried to pull it up
They pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled

And pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled
And pulled and pulled and pulled and pulled
And finally, after one last huge pull
Up came a gigantic and absolutely enormous turnip

I'll go make some turnip soup then, shall I dear?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, good idea
And why don't you go and have a nice lie down?
Yeah, yeah, another good idea
Oh, thank you dear, very thoughtful
My husband obviously needs a holiday

Perhaps we should consider growing peas instead of turnips?
Ah look at him, sound asleep
I do wonder what he's dreaming about
Beans? Zucchinis? Beetroot perhaps?
A holiday in the Caribbean?
Mmm, that would be nice, very nice
