That which makes the normal step a source of shame.
I know that I haunt decent dreams;
God has botched me, I'm a guilty conscience;

In the tavern I sit so that I can see

I have a permanent seat under the Town Hall, where
I display my extraordinary torso for all to see:
A monument to the exception, I tremble with delight that
I will not let any of the councilors' eyes escape me.
When the oak doors have slammed shut,
To conceal the progress of the meeting from the fate of the plebs
I know that I have succeeded in spoiling the mood a little
For those who speak so worthily, thinking - we!

An order of respect, not a gesture of disgust,
Is enough to change - me! me! me! - into - we!!

No, I do not want to influence and belong!
