This is the story of a driver's education!

Well there was no Driver's Aid program where our kids went to school
I said, "I know Richard Petty, but I'm nobody's fool"
I said, "I don't need to pay someone to teach my son to drive

So I drove to the country and sat him behind the wheel
But before I handed him the keys, I said
"Now listen, here's the deal: "

There's a whole lot that you need to know
Before you put this thing in gear
He said "Daddy, I know everything!
I've been watching you for years"

On the highways drive as fast as you can
Keep a sharp lookout for the Man
And be careful not to let some fool get ahead of you
Yell at the folks who drive too slow
Blow your horn if they still won't go
"Daddy, now that I'm driving can I use those words you use?"

That's not exactly right!"

About how you drive at night: "

Always keep your bright lights on
So you can see what's going on
And if those other folks don't like it,
Well they know what they can do
And you can run red lights when no-one's around
And STOP signs only mean SLOW DOWN
"See daddy? I've been watching! I know everything you do."

So I took the wheel and I drove us home
I had a lot to think about
I resisted the temptation several times
To rant and rave and shout
The next day I enrolled our son
In a professional driving school
And they taught him to be an excellent driver,
And I learned a few things too

Voici l'histoire de l'éducation à la conduite !

Eh bien, il n'y avait pas de programme d'aide à la conduite où nos enfants allaient à l'école
J'ai dit : « Je connais Richard Petty, mais je ne suis le fou de personne »
J'ai dit : « Je n'ai pas besoin de payer quelqu'un pour apprendre à mon fils à conduire
Je vais lui apprendre tout ce que je sais, comme ça, il survivra »

Alors, j'ai conduit à la campagne et je l'ai assis au volant
Mais avant de lui donner les clés, j'ai dit :
« Maintenant, écoute, voici l'affaire : »

Il y a beaucoup de choses que tu dois savoir
Avant de mettre cette chose en marche
Il a dit : « Papa, je sais tout !
Je te regarde depuis des années »

Sur les autoroutes, conduis aussi vite que tu peux
Garde un œil sur le flic
Et fais attention à ne pas laisser un imbécile te doubler
Hurle aux gens qui conduisent trop lentement
Fais klaxonner si jamais ils ne veulent pas partir
« Papa, maintenant que je conduis, je peux utiliser ces mots que tu utilises ? »

Ce n'est pas tout à fait ça ! »
Il a dit : « Oh oui, j'ai oublié la partie
Où tu conduis la nuit : »

Garde toujours tes phares allumés
Comme ça, tu peux voir ce qui se passe
Et si les autres ne l'aiment pas,
Eh bien, ils savent ce qu'ils peuvent faire
Et tu peux passer les feux rouges quand personne n'est autour
Et les panneaux STOP signifient simplement RALENTIR
« Tu vois, papa ? J'ai regardé ! Je sais tout ce que tu fais »

Alors, j'ai repris le volant et je nous ai ramenés à la maison
J'avais beaucoup de choses à penser
J'ai résisté plusieurs fois à la tentation
De me fâcher, de me mettre en colère et de crier
Le lendemain, j'ai inscrit notre fils
Dans une école de conduite professionnelle
Et ils lui ont appris à être un excellent conducteur,
Et j'ai appris quelques trucs aussi
