Jedesmal, wenn ich die Zeitung aufschlag',
Haben die Damen und Herren im Bundestag
Sich schon wieder mal die Diäten erhöht,
Und ich spür', wie ich für sie vor Scham erröt'!
Ich seh' Familien, wo es vorn und hinten nicht reicht,
Seh' Opa Bölke, dem man cool das Taschengeld streicht,
Mir gehn die Bilder von Armut nicht aus dem Sinn,
Aber die Damen und Herren langen erst mal kräftig hin!
Ist das nicht eine Schande, in diesem, unsrem Lande!

In der Tagesschau zeigt man uns ein Staatsbankett:
Alle ha'm Übergewicht, und alle sind zu fett.
Doch das gleicht sich wieder aus, denn wie man auch erfährt,
Sind in unserm eigenen Lande Menschen unterernährt.
Wir ha'm 'nen Butterberg, und auch 'nen Milchsee ha'm wir schon,
Und eine Schweinelawine überrollt die Nation,
Mit der Überschussvernichtung ha'm wir unsre liebe Not,
Und Opa Bölke hat nicht mal die Margarine fürs Brot.
Ist das nicht eine Schande, in diesem, unsrem Lande!

Am Flugplatz Bonn steht eine ganze Flotte parat,
Die nichts als nur Polittouristen rumzufliegen hat.
Kein Anlass ist zu nichtig, keine Entfernung zu klein,
Und statt zu Fuß zu gehn, muss es ein Hubschrauber sein.
Für eine Stunde Bonzenjet bekommt man nebenbei
Für dreißig Kinder drei Wochen Ferien auf Norderney.
Und alle naselang düst ein Hanswurst nach irgendwo,
Und Opa Bölke streicht man den Seniorenausflug in den Zoo!
Ist das nicht eine Schande, in diesem, unsrem Lande!

Denk' ich an Deutschland in der Nacht,
Dann hör' ich wie's Silvester knallt und kracht.
Opa Bölke ist jedesmal zu Tode erschreckt,
Sein Bedarf an Knallerei ist in zwei Weltkriegen gedeckt.
Und für das Geld, das man beim letztenmal verballert hat
Kriegst du eine Million Menschen ein Jahr lang satt!
Da kann die Welt verhungern und in Trümmer fall'n,
Das ist uns scheißegal, wir wollen weiterknall'n!
Ist das nicht eine Schande in diesem, unsrem Lande!

Lumpige 50 Milliarden kostet uns das Militär,
Die spar'n wir uns vom Munde ab, die geb'n wir locker her!
Die Armee soll leben in Saus und Braus,
Dafür schließen wir auch gerne mal ein Krankenhaus.
Selbst Opa Bölke verzichtet aufs Sterben, weil man
Für sein Sterbegeld dann noch mehr Waffen kaufen kann.
Wir streichen Schul'n und Kindergärten für den guten Zweck,
Nur bitte, bitte, nehmt uns unser Lieblingsspielzeug nicht weg!
Ist das nicht eine Schande, in diesem, unsrem Lande!

Manchmal denk' ich, ich wand're in die Südsee aus,
Doch es gibt kein Entkommen, hier bin ich zu Haus,
Nirgends wär' ich mehr als hier ein freier Mann,
Nirgends, wo ich mich so grün, gelb, rot und schwarz ärgern kann,
Hier leben Freunde, die ich zum Leben brauch',
Und die brauchen meine Stimme als Wähler vielleicht auch,
Und weil ich Opa Bölke doch nicht so allein lassen kann,
Und schließlich häng' ich irgendwie ja doch daran,
- Das gesteh' ich am Rande - an diesem, unsrem Lande!

In This, Our Land

Every time I open the newspaper,
The ladies and gentlemen in the Bundestag
Have once again raised their own salaries,
And I feel myself blushing with shame for them!
I see families where it's not enough to make ends meet,
See old man Bölke whose pocket money they coldly cut,
The images of poverty won't leave my mind,
But the ladies and gentlemen are first to grab a hefty share!
Isn't that a disgrace, in this, our land!

On the evening news, they show us a state banquet:
Everyone is overweight, and everyone is too fat.
But that balances itself out, because as we also learn,
In our own country, people are undernourished.
We have a mountain of butter, and we already have a lake of milk,
And an avalanche of pork is rolling over the nation,
We have our dear troubles with surplus disposal,
And old man Bölke doesn't even have margarine for his bread.
Isn't that a disgrace, in this, our land!

At Bonn Airport, there's a whole fleet ready,
Whose sole purpose is to fly around political tourists.
No occasion is too insignificant, no distance too small,
And instead of walking, it has to be a helicopter.
For an hour on a VIP jet, you can get on the side
Three weeks of vacation on Norderney for thirty children.
And every so often, some bigwig jets off to somewhere,
And old man Bölke's senior citizen trip to the zoo is canceled!
Isn't that a disgrace, in this, our land!

When I think of Germany at night,
I hear the bangs and booms of New Year's Eve.
Old man Bölke is scared to death every time,
His need for explosions was met in two world wars.
And for the money that was wasted last time
You could feed a million people for a year!
The world can starve and fall to pieces,
We don't give a damn, we want to keep banging!
Isn't that a disgrace in this, our land!

The military costs us a measly 50 billion,
We save it from our mouths, we readily give it away!
The army should live in luxury and excess,
For that, we'll gladly close a hospital.
Even old man Bölke gives up dying because
They can buy even more weapons with his funeral money.
We cut schools and kindergartens for the good cause,
Just please, please, don't take away our favorite toy!
Isn't that a disgrace, in this, our land!

Sometimes I think I'll emigrate to the South Seas,
But there's no escape, this is my home,
Nowhere would I be more of a free man than here,
Nowhere where I can be so annoyed by green, yellow, red, and black,
Friends live here whom I need to live,
And they may need my vote as a voter too,
And because I can't leave old man Bölke so alone,
And after all, I'm somehow attached to it,
- I confess on the side - to this, our land!
