I had a brother in the foster home he was from the

I met him on my second family, it was his first placement foster care
He followed me through three more families, the last one stuck
And they had a dog, just a little collie mutt nobody wanted
And he never could relate to other people much

Neglect and hurts in secret from mommy figures
And supposed dads
Taken without asking
Silenced by shadows with unseen scars

So my brother, he couldn't even feel comfortable with me
Even though we went through the same thing
I was a steely eyed fucked up kid
And my feelings left of no recourse

He clung to the dog, a little collie, no bigger than half a load of bread
Runt of the litter and beat good
Kinda crippled in the mind, blind in one eye and
Never healed from a lifetime of hurt

My foster brother and that dog were like ham and eggs
Peanut butter and ice cream
They were two pickles in a pod, ha
Wasn't anybody keep them apart

Neighborhood bullies wouldn't even mess with the dog
They fucked him and me up and down, but
That dog never got beat, it was something everyone respected
Who knows why people do what they do

So the mom actor traveled al the time
And the father actor was incredibly social
All the time
So the stupid dog named Lumpus was his closest confidant

That Lumpus dog could really keep a secret
I heard all my brother's secrets
Cause he thought when he talked to Lumpus nobody else could hear
I acted like I didn't
That dog was the only one in his life that was always there

When everybody else was mad at him the dog always liked him
When he'd hide, when our parent actors were beating and screaming
The dog always found him and stayed right there
And when he did get beat or got sick Lumpus never left his bed
Until we were better again
And then um

When we were 12 years old
The fosters separated it was the worst night of his life
He told the dog in secret that he thought of
Jumping off the parking garage onto the interstate
It was three stories

And then he looked down at the big dog eyes, inches away
And he said, well who would take care of you Lumpus
Dog saved his life that night, I guess mine too
We went to a hell place after that, I won't speak of the family they put us in
But the dog stayed behind

He kept tabs from the daddy that got to keep Lumpus
And two weeks after we had to go
Lumpus was kicked off the parking garage
Onto the interstate, must have been the neighborhood bullies

The actor dad got the dog in his car and to the vets
And had him in arms in the waiting room for he said 45 minutes
But the dog just died there
Minutes before his doctor was ready to help

And I know it's crazy and it's irrational
But oh fuck I can't help but thinking that last night
When Dog's time came
She must have wondered where my brother was

As he bled out broken back
Faded out with nobody that loved him close
