Brett Young's self-titled debut album is out now, and you know
He co-wrote every single song on the album except for one
So I thought, who better to give us the inside scoop on some
Of these songs and fill us in on how they came about, what
Inspired them? And so, tell me about "Beautiful Believer."

I wrote "Beautiful Believer" the first week that I was in Nashville
Because I was invited to a number-one party for a David Nail song
Called "Whatever She's Got." And one of the writers on the song was
John Knight, and he got up and told his story, and basically, it
Was this: When him and his wife were 18, and their first daughter
Was already 18 months, they jumped into a U-Haul to move to Nashville
So that he could write songs. And he said that they had about a
Thousand dollars and some food stamps, and they got to Nashville
And he said there were so many times where he would try to quit
Songwriting so that he could go get what he called a "real job" so
He could support his family. And how every time he did that, his wife
Basically said, "If we're gonna be poor, we're gonna be poor, but we
Moved here for you to write songs, and that's what you're gonna do
" And I think "Whatever She's Got" was his eleventh number one that he
Was accepting that day. He gave her all the credit, and he called
Her his beautiful believer, and I
Thought, "Oh, I need to write that."
