Christmas, like Santa Claus and Christmas trees and the presents
But I know your faith is the foundation of your life, and I've
Heard you talk about how your mother-in-law was really great
About instilling in you the true reason for the season and
Making sure that that didn't get lost in all the fun and festivity
Can you share that story with people who haven't heard it?

Well, when we were kids, I mean, we would just run down the hall and
Start ripping open presents, and then—then Mama made the rule, "No
You gotta wait 'til we all get there." Okay, so we kinda sat around
Like a family civilized (and we weren't) and then, you know, opened
The present slowly and nicely and say "Thank you." And so, when I
Got married to Narvel, I got introduced to this lovely woman, Gloria
Blackstock. And she would set the kids, grandkids, and great-
Grandkids down, which was hard to do on Christmas morning (right)
That's all they're waiting for is to open those presents. And she
Would tell the story about Joseph and Mary coming to Bethlehem, Mary
Having Baby Jesus, putting Him in the manger. And then she would say
"That's why we're here. That's why we're celebrating Christmas. It's
Jesus' birthday." Then she'd bring in the cake, and we'd sing "Happy
Birthday Jesus" (Oh, wow) and said, "This is why you're having gifts
It's His birthday." And then the kids were more thoughtful. And I
Thought it was just a wonderful idea that she had. (And you get to
Eat cake on Christmas.) Absolutely, she's a real good cook. (That
Was what I was excited about.) No, I'm only playing, but I love that
Story, and I appreciate you sharing it with us. It is important to
