Something To Believe In

Well I see him on the TV
Preaching about the promised land
He tells me believe in Jesus
Steals the money from my hands
Some say he was a good man
But Lord I think he's sinned

"Twenty-two years of metal tears"
Cries a suicidal Vietnam vet
About losing the war on a foreign shore
To find his country didn't want him back
The police took his best friends in Saigon
Alone he took his wife, his kids, no regrets
In a time I don't remember
Any war he can't forget
He cried "forgive me for what I've done there
Because I never meant the things I did"

My best friend died a lonely man
Some Palm Springs hotel room
I got the call last Christmas Eve
