We started off as new freshman meeting,
And we all tried out the same standard greetings
Cautious small talk produced relieving laughter
An unlikely bond grew from then and thereafter

For various reasons, we soon were compelled
To drink and/or smoke the nights away
Some nights were dreamlike while the others a nightmare
But we always stayed true, and would jokingly say

Water flows freely, but it's not from the piping
The future is here and its so very frightening
As people depart, the building goes cold
Devoid of the hearts which once made it glow
What's a home without your family?
