Once upon a time lived a poor princess
Poor because the life she led pleased her less and less
She puttered in her palace and the years were passing by
If only something happened that would make her laugh or cry

Once upon a time, some Decembers after
There appeared a minstrel boy who offered love and laughter
She laughed and cried and sighed, "I love you"
And the world was sublime
Good old once upon a time

Once upon a time lived a poor princess
Poor because the prince she loved loved her less and less
He'd become a vassal of a witch extremely old
Who'd promised him a castle if he'd sell his heart for gold

Picture our princess ruing her position
'Til her fairy guardian came and called his great magician
Who took her on his magic carpet for a journey sublime
