Shadow

This shadow is taking over every time I get a break
Every time I think I'm free from this darkness that I must shake
So I repress this fear and anxiety so as to deny the expression
Defenses tear down and feelings rise up
From this unconscious repression

I keep on going keep thinking that I'm going to be fine
But this shadow remains unconscious and it's wreaking havoc in my life
This black cloud is always taking possession over my mind
Exerting control over my thoughts
Emotions, and behaviors all the time

Self destructive behaviors despite knowing I'm better off without
This shadows exerting control and keeps causing me to doubt
One minute I'm giving up on this war inside trying to live my life
The next minute this shadow overrides and I don't want to be alive

Trying to avoid being a victim of this shadow possession
I'm uncovering the shade from this shadow repression
Accept me as I am I'm bringing the darkness into the light
I'm not trying to become perfect I'm just trying to win this fight

The shadow is a tight passage, a narrow door, my own personal hell
Whose painful constriction to which no one is spared
Many times I've traveled far away down to this deep well
I felt like all I needed was someone around, someone who cared

I'm learning to know myself to know who I am
Uncovering these talents, abilities and impulses within
That proclivity to abide by social expectations caused me to repress
This shadow in my mind has caused me to digress

This shadow is taking over every time I get a break

Before it takes me away from my unconscious reality
Coming to terms I'm bearing full responsibility
Trying to cope with this shadow everyday creatively
