Gdy każdy zmierzch mężczyznę miażdży
Od wewnątrz pośpiech szarpie gniewny
A z nieba mu znikają gwiazdy
Który to przetrwa ten - dożyje
Zaszczytu, że sędziwie zgnije
Mniej ważne - ile czasu trawisz
Niż z jakim trawisz go wynikiem
Niejedną twarz mi los przyprawił
Byłem już zdrajcą i pomnikiem

Paci zabawek nie pomnożę
A zapisuję jej przestrogę
Że choć się wiecznie bawić może
Nie taką jej wyśniłem drogę
Lecz snem nie będę córki dręczył
Zjawi się drań, co mnie wyręczy!
Przykra to myśl, że gdy czterdziestkę
Poranny wieszczy reumatyzm
Tak łatwo w ten testament mieszczę

Gitarę, książki i zapiski
Butelkę po ostatniej whisky
Nic nie zapiszę więc Wałęsom
Pawlakom, Strąkom i Urbanom
Co codziennością naszą trzęsą
A ja ich muszę strząsać rano

I wieść dysputę o człowieku
W przepyszne wciągną cię katusze
Nie byle jakie łby i dusze
Dyskusja z nimi też jest czysta
Podstępna tylko z naszej strony
Czym grozi nam antagonista
Co przed wiekami pogrzebiony?
A dodam jeszcze myśl, że i my
Niedługo już będziemy z nimi
To samo pod rozwagę daję
Kochankom moim bez wyjątku
Jakże do syta tym się najeść
Co końcem było od początku?
Imion rozkoszy więc nie podam
Bo życia mało, czasu szkoda
Dlatego też się kończyć godzi
Nie wiem, czy jeszcze co napiszę
Lecz tylem już wierszydeł spłodził
Że jest czym okpić po mnie cisze
Zwłaszcza, że póki słońce świeci
Wciąż będą rodzić się poeci
Jak ja bezczelni i bezradni
Spragnieni grzechu i spowiedzi
I jedną nogą już w zapadni
Dociekający - co w nich siedzi
Co wciąż nieuchronności przeczy
Że może życie jest do rzeczy!

Testament '95

At the age of thirty-eight,
As the twentieth century wanes,
With nothing left to discover,
Neither within myself nor in mankind,
I grasp a black pen and ink
To write down my testament.
Behind me, the age of Christ,
Assigned to sacrificial lambs,
When an innocent head falls
For the sins of others - that is, for us,
To escape the snares of life
And wither into a relic amidst incense.
Before me, ten uncertain years,
Where every dusk crushes a man,
From within, an angry urgency tugs,
And stars vanish from his sky.
Whoever endures, survives,
The honor of decaying wisely.
Less important - how much time you spend,
Than with what result you spend it.
Fate has given me many faces,
I have been a traitor and a monument,
A degenerate, a hero,
And all faces were sincere.
They looked at me through the lenses
Of love, anger, interest,
They distorted my songs
To make them something they are not.
They used me in their time of need,
It's a wonder I still have a bit of myself.
Besides that, I have little left,
I've eaten and drunk away my earnings,
Because there's something in the soul and body,
That the soul hates - the body loves.
So I leave no posterity,
No accounts, shares, or possessions.
To my first wife, Inka,
Before she speaks ill of me,
I leave our shared bruises,
Souvenirs of a long-standing war.
I see myself reflected in these medals,
Because what hurts does not die.
To my second wife,
I will not write anything down for nothing,
Because no matter how I count,
She will still scold me for being wasteful.
So before a short circuit occurs,
"I love you" - I write in my testament.
Also to my son, Kosma,
I have little to bequeath.
I don't know what will happen when he grows up,
Whether he will strike me or ask questions.
And in vain I struggle today,
To find answers for them.
I will not multiply Patia's toys,
But I leave her a warning,
That although she can play forever,
I did not dream of such a path for her.
But I will not torment my daughter with dreams,
A scoundrel will appear who will do it for me!
It's a sad thought, that when forty
Morning heralds rheumatism,
So easily I fit into this testament,
All my household gods and belongings.
A guitar, books, and notes,
A bottle from the last whisky.
So I will not bequeath anything to the Walesas,
Pawlaks, Strąks, and Urbans,
Who shake our daily lives,
And I have to shake them off in the morning.
And my friend Grabowska's
Game with them I consider a weakness.
There are still songs left. They,
Whether I want it or not, are no longer mine.
Let them suffer their fate - once created,
For a hopeless fight with the system.
The system disappeared, and with the words of the songs,

I have nothing to do with them,

Otherwise, admirers will betray,
That they have not understood much from me.
Partners are also a source of concern,

We raised so many prayers together,
We parted ways without a melody.
In this time so wretched, so noisy,
When quick effect swallows thought,
Choral impulses intertwine,
All music disappears in the noise.
But, although with inevitable sadness,
Let each hum their own tune.
Oh, this is not a lonely humming!
The hermit will not even look back,
And the great saved will appear,
From the history of grates and ashtrays,
To mock first and then tempt,
And to force us to live up to them.
For they did not pass through purgatory by chance,
Sifted from the fast-flowing drain of fashion,
In order to exist, not to shine,
And to lead a debate about man.
They will drag you into exquisite torments,
Not just any heads and souls.
The discussion with them is also pure,
Deceitful only on our part.

Like me, shameless and helpless,
Thirsty for sin and confession,
And with one foot already in the trap,
Inquiring - what sits within them,
That still defies inevitability,
That maybe life is for something!
