شنیدم كه چون قوی زیبا بمیرد
فریبنده زاد و فریبا بمیرد

شب مرگ تنها نشیند به موجی
رود گوشهای دور و تنها بمیرد

در آن گوشه چندان غزل خواند آن شب
كه خود در ميان غزلها بمیرد

گروهی بر آنند كاین مرغ شیدا
كجا عاشقی كرد؛ آنجا بمیرد

شب مرگ از بيم آنجا شتابد
كه از مرگ غافل شود تا بمیرد

من این نكته گیرم كه باور نكردم
ندیدم كه قویی به صحرا بمیرد

چو روزی از آغوش دریا برآمد
شبی هم در آغوش دریا بمیرد

تو دریای من بودی آغوش واكن
كه میخواهد این قوی زیبا بمیرد

Swan Death

I heard that when a beautiful swan dies
Deceivingly born and enchantingly dies

On the night of death, it sits alone on a wave
Swims to distant shores and dies alone

In that corner, it sang so many ghazals that night
That it itself dies amidst the ghazals

A group believes that this passionate bird
Wherever it fell in love; dies there

On the night of death, it hurries there in fear
So that it may be oblivious of death until it dies

I take this point, that I did not believe
I have not seen any swan die in the desert

As one day it emerged from the embrace of the sea
One night it will also die in the embrace of the sea

You are my sea, open your embrace
So that this beautiful swan may die
