Echo

Am Tag erdrückte mich der fahle Sonnenschein.
Alle Sterne blickten nachts auf mich herab,
doch nie befreiten sie mich von der großen Bürde.
Kein Regenguss, kein Strafgericht, nichts wusch mich rein,
und selbst Sternschnuppenschweife schnitt ich ab,
gewahr, dass es vom Himmel nichts mehr geben würde.
So kam ich frei, kappte die Fäden vehement,
die ihren Ursprung hatten, dort am Firmament.

Alles zerstört, alles kaputt.
Trümmerfeld und Berg von Schutt.
Heraus kam ich gekrochen,
ging fort und blickte mich nicht um.
Ist es wahr, ist es geschehn?
Träumte ich, ich könnte gehn?
Hab ich den Kreis zerbrochen?
Mein Innerstes blieb dazu stumm.

Müde und zerschlagen.
So weit die Füße tragen
und dann noch etwas weiter.
So bin ich doch entkommen,
hab gar nichts mitgenommen.
Nur Stille mein Begleiter,
bis auf ein Echo in mir:

Ruhe sanft
und ruhe still!

Dunkel und kühl!
Ruhe sanft,
weil du sonst verbrennst!
Ruhe sanft!
Es wird Zeit, dass du dir etwas Ruhe gönnst.

In jeder Pore Straßenstaub,
hatte ich mir doch nicht erlaubt,
inne- und anzuhalten,
so starrte ich vor altem Schmutz.
Mein Körper und mein Geist warn wund.
Zerklüftet, felsig war der Grund,
bald sah ich eine Spalte,
und sie versprach mir endlich Schutz.

Nun endlich Ruhe findend,
aus dieser Welt verschwindend,
schlief ich, wurd blass und blasser.
Wo keine Sterne riefen.
In unerreichten Tiefen
Ein See aus süßem Wasser
- er trug das Echo zu mir:

Ruhe sanft
und ruhe still!

Dunkel und kühl!

weil du sonst verbrennst!

Es wird Zeit, dass du dir etwas Ruhe gönnst.

Und über mir wuchs eine Stadt und wurde bald schon zum Moloch.
Mein Schlaf blieb lange ungestört,
doch eines Tages
schlug ich meine Augen auf,
noch halb im Traum.
Obwohl die bittren, alten Ängste
Auch mit mir erwachten,

verließ ich meine Höhle doch!

und ruh nicht still!

Echo

During the day, the pale sunshine overwhelmed me.
All the stars looked down on me at night,
but they never freed me from the great burden.
No rain, no judgment, nothing washed me clean,
and I even cut off shooting star trails,
knowing that there would be nothing more from the heavens.
So I broke free, vehemently severing the threads
that had their origin up there in the firmament.

Everything destroyed, everything broken.
A field of rubble and a mountain of debris.
I crawled out,
walked away and didn't look back.
Is it true, has it happened?
Did I dream that I could walk?
Have I broken the cycle?
My innermost self remained silent about it.

Tired and shattered.
As far as my feet would carry me
and then a little further.
So I escaped,
didn't take anything with me.
Only silence was my companion,
except for an echo within me:

Rest softly

It's time you gave yourself some rest.

Street dust in every pore,
I hadn't allowed myself
to pause and linger,
so I stared at old grime.
My body and my mind were sore.
Rugged and rocky was the ground,
soon I saw a fissure,
and it promised me protection at last.

Now finally finding peace,
disappearing from this world,
I slept, becoming paler and paler.
Where no stars called.
In unreachable depths
A lake of sweet water
- it carried the echo to me:

It's time you gave yourself some rest.

And above me a city grew and soon became a Moloch.
My sleep remained undisturbed for a long time,
but one day
I opened my eyes,
still half in a dream.
Although the bitter, old fears
Awakened with me,

I left my cave!
