Lake Effect

Lake effect rolling in from the north
I was wishing that I'd brought a coat to the porch
As the last of the smoke from my torch floated away
Fade to black and I'm back in the place where I grew
All the love, all the lack, all the strings coming loose
All the ghosts that I knew come out to play
Like circlin' birds of prey

Overslept, underkept, all my life in a pile
Day reflects off the wall, stretchin' outward for miles
And I smile as I fall back in a dream

Before the night stole the light from the sky over us
And to trust was as easy as learning to breathe
