From my home and my friends, I am forgotten

Under a building or next to the river
Perhaps in a boat, fleeing in haste
Oh God, let me reach the shore and escape the path of misery
Suddenly, the night descends, carrying waves of despair
It stole me, and in my fear, it cast me out into the night sea
The shy moments, the laughter of childhood
Innocence murdered, the image of a drowned child
I am Aylan, and I am tired
A displaced Syrian child, as if I wasn't human

My home, as vast as space, the sun warms me
The ceiling of my home is the sky, and the waves cover me
The grains of sand cushion my head, the mud my pillow
My room is decorated with stars, and the gods protect me
We were displaced and called terrorists, and they did this to us
Time bombs, the world rejected us
The fault is ours, we grew up in ignorance
We lived in illiteracy, we became the talk of the town
We lost our way in boats, we were lost at sea
We never reached the shore, the sea drowned us
I am not Aylan, I am not Aylan
I am all the children who have been displaced from their homeland
I am an Arab child, a child drowned on the shore, a cry in the void
