Astronauts

They seated us in plush chairs
And strapped us in with belts
And sealed a tight hatch over our heads

Our helmets sucked onto our heads like leeches
And a monster's belly separated us from the world
If we hear anything, it's through the headphones
If we see anything, it's on the TV screens
They launched us into the silence and darkness of space
And they watched until they were sure that
That we were in a state of weightlessness in the void
Where the voices from Earth reach us with a delay
