Como uma dança das horas de cascos ferindo pastos
E este rangido de bastos se completa em melodias
Na gaita das sesmarias, por onde deixo os meus rastros

Que lindo ver a querência, cada serro, cada aguada
Pra quem cruzou madrugadas nas rondas sonhando vê-las
Vem uma lágrima sinuela ponteando a felicidade
De quem viveu na saudade entre a pampa e as estrelas

No oitão do rancho a china, sangrando noites de espera
Num riso de primavera reflorescendo faceira
É uma flor de corticeira da minha pampa bravia
Que ficou contando os dias, mirando a luz da boieira

Return of the Troop

The troop surrendered to a long trot, returning to the ranch today,
I ruminate on the absence that I grazed on the paths.
And this longing for affection in a gaucho lack,
That muffles the mule drivers when they wander alone.

My steed swapping ears, jingling spurs,
Like a dance of the hours, of hooves wounding pastures.
And this creaking of packs completes itself in melodies,
In the gaita of the communal lands, where I leave my tracks.

How beautiful to see the ranch, each hill, each watering place,
For those who crossed the dawns dreaming of seeing them.
A tear comes, a little bridge, marking happiness,
Of those who lived in longing between the pampa and the stars.

On the porch of the ranch, the woman, bleeding from nights of waiting,
In a spring smile, reflowering, more cheerful,
She is a flower of leatherwood from my wild pampa,
Who kept counting the days, looking at the light of the cowherd.
