I called up a taxi

When the driver heard me talk
He knew I was a stranger in New York

East, West and all over the town
But when I did find out next day

I just come from the West Indies
Take me to this address

Then the man step down on the gas

But when I did find out next day
I could have walked to the place, I was only two blocks away

Now every taxi up there
Have a meter to show you what is the fare
Before you enter the car
Twenty-five cents register
Now, where do you want to go
Don't ask the driver he'll never know
But if you give two bucks to the chap
He'll find your address just like that

But he take you 'round and 'round and 'round

But when you do find out next day
You could walk to the place, sometimes you only half block away

It didn't take me long to learn
I saw it was a money-making concern
I decide never me again
I'm going to take the underground train
You should see me early next day
But unfortunately ah took the wrong subway
So I lost me way on the train
Now ah gone back taking taxi again
