Текст песни Young Man Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn - Pete Seeger

I′ll sing you a song and it's not very long
It′s about a young man who wouldn't hoe corn
Strange to say, I cannot tell
This young man was always well
He planted his corn in the month of June
By July it was near high
First of September come a big frost
And all the young man's corn was lost
He went to the fence and the weeds and grass came up to his chin
The weeds and grass they come so high
Because this young man poor decide
He went downtown to his neighbor′s door
He had often been before
Said, "Pretty little miss, will you marry me?
Little miss what do you say?"
Why do you come for me to wed?
Can′t even make your own corn grain
Single I am and will remain;
A lazy man not maintain."
Well, he went down to that pretty little litter
And I hope by hack that he don't gitter
She gave him a beaten, sure you born
All because he wouldn′t hoe corn
